Anti-austerity - my ass. These May Day riots go back for years now (before the recession was a twinkle in a banker’s eye). They are a part of the Police's annual calendar.
To even refer to them as demonstrators is a joke, they are not demonstrating about anything. It’s the same as the London riots, those guys weren’t demonstrating, they were looting.
If you looked at the average profile of the people involved, none of them would be particularly feeling the pinch about anything, most are young middle class pricks whose mum and dad live down the road in a 5 bed house.

I honestly think we are far, far too lenient on these people. I think the bloke who decimated the women war memorial should be arrested and then handed over to a bunch of Paras for the evening to extract their revenge. They would think twice then. We are far too week in this country, the police are more concerned about 'demonstrators' rights to demonstrate than public violation. String the b******s up by the balls I say. Especially that Gusset fellow!

So it's not the same then. One group privileged, the other with regard to the London riots often dirt poor. Very different circumstances in fact.

Sometimes demonstrations are valid, other times not. We have to be careful in how we deem they should be policed though, because if one thing so we can be sure of it's that the same level of enforcement will be used for both kinds.

B******s mate. Neither were demonstrating and that's the point.

Perhaps when criticising anti social behaviour, the key is not to display it yourself.

Perhaps you should stop spouting crap then

My comments were considered, calmly put and not insulting. Again, if you want to attack displays of antisocial behaviour you might want to stop displaying it yourself as you've now done for the second reply in a row. If you think that swearing at people who put reasonable replies forward is acceptable then clearly you have a similar mindset to those who throw their toys out of the pram in public when they don't get their own way.

Dear Mr ImBored

Having read your latest reply and after much soul searching I have come to the conclusion that you are correct and that I have been wrong all along. In the future I will try and curb my aggressiveness and anti-social behaviour and will try and take a more considered and calm approach to such matters, much like yourself. With this in mind, I would also like to apologise for suggesting that you were born out of wedlock, apologise for suggesting that you speak crap, and apologise for suggesting that you ‘bat for the other side’.
I feel that I am now in a far better place, mainly due to your wise words, and I look forward to a more reasonable and grown up relationship together.

People have a democratic right to protest against whatever they want.

Yes, understood. But wouldn't the 'anti Tory' protests have more credibility if they were held after Tory policies were unveiled in the Queens speech?

These demos just appear to have no real meaning. They appear to be an excuse for the usual suspects to have a go and cause some damage.

The defacing of the war memorial with the words 'die Tory scum' hardly deflects from this.

I think they do. Passions are still very high, these demos I would say are probably a lot of the grassroots left's response to the news of a Tory government. The causes are the same as what caused previous anti-austerity marches, probably coupled with a dose of anti-FPTP sentiment. But emotions are a lot higher, hence why these demos have been a lot less peaceful, and therefore have gained the publicity which the previous ones didn't.

And I don't think many on the left feel that they need to wait for the Tory's cuts to come in, stating that you'll cut £12 billion off the welfare bill sort of speaks for itself.

Christ mate, this is General Talk. Backing down like that is just not the correct etiquette. You should've called his mum a whore and told him to f*ck off to North Korea.

That's your view and you are entitled to it.

As someone looking from the outside, it appeared to be a knee jerk affair and without a concise message.

What a novel way to cram more, what you deem to be insults, into a post. Creative at least .

Iambored is a troll. Albeit a clever one. Best to ignore him.

Nows not the time to protest.
Do it in 6 months when there are 10000 less police

So you support that demonstration?

I support the right to protest.

Do you not belive in the right to protest Matt?

Are you accusing me of being 'Derben'?

It's an important foundation of our society Nick, though I would say that protests often get co-opted and the message watered down. Similar to what happened in the US recently.

Yeah but find me one protest in history which wasn't in someway reactionary and ambiguous in its aims.
