So two questions for you Willo:

why should anyone trust the Tories on the economy when it's clear that the jobs being created aren't improving people's lives? (If you want mass employment, go and live in a totalitarian regime where everyone's working in sweatshops)

and

Why should we care about growth when people are worse off in real terms now than before the crash? (again, if you want growth, go to the Congo, one of the fastest growing economies in the world where half the people can't drink clean water)

In terms of unemployment the 5.3% expected rate this year is HALF the Urozone average of 9.8%. Currently there are sone 31 Mill in work which is a record number and some 73% is the figure for those of working age now in employment which is highest since records began.

Regards job creation, 80% of the jobs created are skilled. I know Labour make great play of "Zero hours contracts" but 80% of the jobs created are full-time and I know quite a few people who are "Casual" as it suits them to be so.

As for people being worse off before the crash, the Labour claim is that families are £1600 worse off which is unadulterated piffle. This figure excludes tax changes and dates from April 20014 and since then inflation has fallen sharply and pay rises have improved. Living standards are now officially higher since 2010 and disposable income is higher compared to the second quarter of 2010.The independent 'Office of budget tesponsibility' claims has predicted that families will be £900 better off by the end of 2015.

Would love to continue on my "Soapbox" but alas I have to go out to do some canvassing !!!!

Shame, you've just assumed I'm a labourite and argued on that basis.

Being better off than 2010 is really hardly a success, we'd just had one of the biggest global economic crashes in history! Bit like saying George Burley was a successful Palace manager because we were better when he left but ignoring the fact that we had about 5 players when he joined!

If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4

The Labour government presided over an era of irresponsibility in UK banking which exacerbated the problem and they have admitted themselves that they should have introduced greater regulation.

Regards the comparison with 2010, I was only answering the Labour 'Charge' about living standards falling and families being £1,600 worse off which is total and utter hogwash.

Can you remind me which party it was that came up with the idea of,promoted, and then introduced the (to use your terminology) "irresponsible" deregulation of the financial sector in the UK in the interests of enabling us all to enjoy the "benefits" of the free market in financial services?

Clue:it was in power from 1979-97

As for living standards, the following makes for interesting reading if seeking to compare 2009-10 to now:

My goodness !
Even blaming the Conservatives for issues that never occurred on their watch !
Labour came to power in 1997 - when was the banking crisis ? 2008 ?
Even Labour have admitted their failings in this respect.

Labour had no control, just as your party, the Tories, in the 80's/early 90's had no control.
The colour of the party is irrelevant as they have no REAL POWER as has been shown time after time after time.........
There is only one group that continually make money regardless of the economical figures, the bankers. How so? Because it's THEY who make the rules. THEY manipulate markets. THEY decide what you and I should or should not have. Whether you agree or not, this is how the system works.

I didn't bother reading any more when the report indicates a less than impressive recovery. In fact this is yet another 'Charge' by Labour stating that the recovery has been "Disappointing".

In 2014 GDP grew by 2.8% which was actually revised up from 2.6% and the fastest annual growth since 2006.In actual fact Britain had the strongest annual growth rate in the 'G7' in 2014, with Canada the next highest growing at a rate of 2.5%.

All these stats in "Punch and Judy" exchanges must be very tedious to all and sundry on here.Perhaps even more tedious than a WILLO thread !

I am off to do more canvassing !

Shame on you Willo, though interesting for what it does illustrate about your tunnel vision, not even bothering to read a BBC "fact check" properly.Happy canvassing and be sure to carry on spreading the "truth"!

As you appear have time on your hands why not put it to better use and help people, rather than trying to brainwash people?

There's some truth to this. If all the jehovahs, mormons and canvassers with something to 'sell' were replaced with people with a genuine interest in those whose doors they knocked on, that would make a real difference to people.

When you have a product to sell you're deceiving people on their own doorstep, which is insulting. No wonder most people aren't interested.

The inheriting the worst debt in the world keeps getting brought up as why Labour could not be trusted

Well, this is an interesting article - and written by a Tory. The facts tell a different story

[Link]

So it was all "Rosy in the garden" when the Conservatives came to power in 2010 ? Remember the note left by Labour "There is no money left" ?
Hogwash.

As for the question about when is Cameron going to apologise.Cameron has nothing to apologise for given just some of the successes ie

1000 NEW JOBS EVERY DAY. Creation of 1,000 new jobs every day since 2010 - meaning 1,000 more people every day with the security of a pay packet.

2) THE DEFICIT HALVED. Deficit halved as a share of our economy, and building a Britain that lives within its means.

3) INCOME TAX CUT AND BENEFITS CAPPED. Rewarding work, by cutting income tax for over 26 million people and making sure it always pays to work.

I could go on and on....... !

He also needs to take credit for the better advertising of food banks which has meant that now nearly a million people enjoy free food when they get really hungry compared to the pathetic 60,000 using them in 2010. See we have all shared in the benefits of a tory government.

Typical Labour deflection tactics like the one about "Zero hours contracts". The fact remains that the greater number of food banks that are set up by charities the more people that will use them.

The fact remains that the 2.6% UK growth in 2014 is faster than any other advanced economy including Germany and seven times the level in France. There has been a 100,000 fall in unemployment announced last month and the expected unemployment rate of 5.3% this year is nearly half the eurozone average of 9.8%.There are lots of people sharing the "Benefits of a Tory government" !

I'm working in Vienna at the moment and the Austrians are very proud of the fact that seemingly they have one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe at 5%. So 5.3% looks pretty good.
