Politically,I "hated" Thatcher. But I had a friend who worked as a civil servant in No 10 at the time who said she was a very decent and considerate person to work for on a one to one basis ,compared to many other politicians. I've heard that she was a total power freak and would use any situation to protect her position and family [somebody in particular was up to no good or maybe he was deliberately drawn into nefarious business activity]. It could well be that it was convenient to turn a blind eye but more likely that the very people she would turn to were already complicit and able to control her? Who knows?

I take my position because I believe in justice being fair to all parties and based upon rationality and proof. I don't like finger pointing and rumour mongering being regarded as valid positions. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Mar 2015 1.17pm)

This just adds to my view that you haven't got a clue what you think you believe in and are filled with as many, if not more, prejudices than everyone else but make yourself feel better about it by attempting to project a 'right on' image of yourself.

No smoke without fire... Even the saying is wrong. You do get smoke without fire.....Anyone who's rubbed two appropriately dry sticks together for long enough knows that you get plenty of smoke long before you get fire.

I don't disagree with you at all.I was talking in terms of someone relatively junior in contact with her regularly in a quasi "employee" type situation where there was nothing to "protect" and thought it would be wrong to leave that out because it conflicted with my political and personal perception of her. I worked at the Houses of Parliament at that time and quite a few politicians of all parties treated such people in my experience like sh1t. I completely agree with you in terms of Thatcher (like so many prominent politicians) protecting matters relating to potential political/personal damage, whether involving family, civil servants, politicians or anyone else.Personally, but never having met her,I found her "unbearable" as an individual.
