Like many others on here I'm going for Claude Davis.

I always forgave his ineptitude even when it meant we'd go on to lose the game and he'd have to serve another suspension.

I just loved the stupid great oaf!

2 that stick out for me:

Steven Thomson
Andrew Martin

Thomson was a willing worker, but never really lasted and was soon sold on. He did end up playing for my team in Scotland, St Mirren, so I got to cheer him on again.

Andy Martin was one of those young players thrown in when we were skint. Always tried, never looked like scoring, managed 1 goal I think in his time.

More recently

Sandor Torghelle - I thought we had signed a striker who was going to get 15-20 a season, I soon realised that this was disciplinary points! Scored a belter against Clowntown in the League Cup and then disappeared....

F*cking hell yes, Andrew Martin! He was another one that really performed for me in the fantasy world of Championship Manager so when he rocked up playing for Whyteleafe against my local non-league team I was really excited to see him play. He was terrible in that game even in Tier 8!

As a kid I thought Tommy Langley was great. Saw him score 2, including a screamer, in a 3-1 win over birmingham in about '81. Couldn't understand why everyone slagged him off at the time!

Have to agree with those who said Calvin Andrew and Claude Davis. Always wanted them to do well.

Pleased to see Bert robson and Mike Deakin getting a mention. Some old buggers on here!

Although he later proved to be a good player...back in the day we signed a player Charlie Chase (Inside right in old money) and our supporters openly laughed at him Turned out that he could not play when the ball was behind him---when he was converted into a centre back..he was fantastic..

palace have had an odd assortment of player and he later became rev Chase.

Shefki Kuqi

Too young to have a wide choice of players but this guy was a hero to me growing up! Top bloke and made the crowd laugh on multiple times.

No one likes to admit Nicky Chatterton was crap, but he was.

I saw the great Aylott on several occasions and thought the crowd a little harsh to remember him for the next twenty years. The OP put Barber, which is a good one, just because he was called Mr. 110 per cent in the programme notes you couldn't help but think he was alright. He had a pretty poor scoring ratio but was perhaps more skilfull than Alan Lee - who we all loved I thought. More recently we have had the obvious Calvin Andrew - who really seemed to try but ultimately fail. There was also Matt Lawrence - who became annoying in the end. Very recent Wilbs - you had to love him but his first touch and eye for goal were perhaps a little dodgy. We all loved George Wood too, and still do as a member of our back-room team, but frankly I am glad we have an Argentinian in goal.

Tommy Langley.

The week before we bought him, I was talking to then manager, Dario Gradi. He asked me what I thought of Langley. My reply was along the lines of '' couldn't trap a bag of cement....a willing work/cart horse of a player ''

Five days later he was ours, and for a quite large fee.

His partnership with Chris Jones struck fear in the heart of the fans. Our own, i mean.

But he never gave up, chased every ball, and attitude wise he was spot on.

Ditto

Me and a mate formed the Tommy Langley fan club

To this date we are still the only two members
