I imagine nickgusset was expecting an argument from the right, not the centre left. Nice to be on the side of the racists and homophobes.
There is many a true word said in jest. Also, why are you so punchy? I thought you deplored personal remarks on here. Do you have a sympathy period for when your missus is on the blob in order to understand and show solidarity with the female condition?
However, I am prepared to be educated if I am presented with good evidence indicating that UKIP enjoy a broader support accross the demographic in terms of age, ethnicity and so on. Do you have any?
On the other note, I posted a link from the Huffington Post on the first page of this thread which provides polling statistics. Given that pollin companies use tested scientific methods from all ages and genders, that should give you comfort that there is, at the moment, a wide spread support for UKIP.

I read the TUSC website at lunchtime. What a read! Interesting that they have no manifesto, just a bunch of lefty cliche aims, proclaim solidarity with all and sundry, will fight oppression of all and sundry and have provided no clues as to how they will pay for their wacko ideas. I am really looking forward to understanding their energy policy as they say they will slash carbon emissions but decline to day how. And they call UKIP dangerous...

UKIP are a protest party, plain and simple. I'm very likely to vote for them NOT because I think they have any worthwhile policies, but because I am fed up with the centrist, metropolitan consensus of the "major" parties. (Who, incidentally, are so "major" that they have fewer than half a million members between them, so if you want unrepresentative media representation it doesn't come much more unrepresentative than that!) Especially the Tory party who are an even worse bunch of charlatans than New Labour. The political class need a kick up the backside and I think voting UKIP will help deliver that. They might well be full of unsavoury characters and I wouldn't trust them to run a brothel let alone a country, but that's not the point. It's a protest vote, which I think is a perfectly legitimate political position to take. Good post, and my opinion on them. The whole political system needs a shakeup, and people realise that voting UKIP is the most likely way to make it happen.

That's what happened with the National Socialists 1933. Legitimate votes got them into power after some horrendous economic times. I wonder how many of those were protest votes too? Personally, i will be protest voting for a more benign Party or independent candidate instead.

Cue the call for a none of the above option on voting cards.

Everyone thought it was "fun" to vote for an Independent Mayor in Bristol wearing red trousers. The bloke has turned into a right cnut shutting roads on Sundays and enforcing restricted parking zones around the City. Be careful what you wish for.

As for the 70 seats - the FPTP system makes it almost impossible for small parties to get many seats. One of the major flaws in the Weimar constitution was that it was much easier.

Got to hand it to Supes. What Tevye have as subject matter he gets a FOTR plug in.
