I heard the ground is being 'lowered' to build up the stands, a new semi-circular' main stand replacing the original rust bucket and a capacity higher than 30,000. Either a change or oblivion.

I can understand lowering the pitch, but a "semi-circular" stand? How the hell would that work?

"Nope, for me we've got to where we are...Palace is Selhurst and Thornton Heath not Penge and Gypsy Hill."

I don't understand this at all and it drives me nuts. Crystal Palace is Crystal Palace which is why we are called Crystal Palace FC not Selhurst and Thorton heath FC or Croydon FC or anywhere else FC it really is not rocket science. If you want to buy baked beans you buy a tin which says baked beans on not spagetti hoops or carrots!

So in that case Arsenal have the wrong name and should move back to Woolwich, Chelsea should move to Chelsea or rename to Fulham II, etc.
The point is we've been at Selhurst Park nearly 90 years so more or less 9 times longer than Crystal Palace Park or anywhere else so I think by now you can safely say it's our home.

That is a journey and a half. It raises a key question concerning the location of the stadium - where do Palace supporters live? I suspect that if you had a heat map from 1972 and now you would see that the first one was tightly packed around Norwood and Croydon. A present one is likely to show tat support has spread very widely. Palace must have this data from their membership and season ticket sales. It would be interesting to know what proportion of support now travels from outside Croydon.

I did a poll on the BBS 823 fan's responded to where they live. Just 16% live in Croydon.

That is an astonishingly small %. It begs the question of whether the club is drawing in support from the local community or is simply relying on next generation of exist g supporters. If we rely on people travelling a long way then any stadium must be close to a mainline station or major road junction.
But that % of local support has to grow or the clubs long term future is very bleak.

If we remain in the Prem for a few more years, rest assured that the number of local supporters will increase.

On topic,

Although I personally would like us to return to our ancestral home, I cannot see that happening. Unless it does, I want us to stay at Selhurst Park and redevelop.

That's the defining argument from my perspective. We've been at Selhurst for nearly a century. That's much more like "home" to me than the park.

I mean it's not a massive problem for me either way, because at the end of the day, the club's area is not restricted to Thornton Heath/South Norwood/Croydon.

Streatham, Norbury, Upper and West Norwood, Penge, etc - it's still all local to our club IMO.

But our stadium has been "home" since the 1920s. It's a historic ground in the middle of a built up area - the classic English football ground. And it's ours. I wouldn't want to trade it in for something like the Amex, in the middle of a huge park.

On a selfish level I love living very close to the ground but tbf when living in Streatham and Tulse Hill I still loved making the short journey to Selhurst, the pubs near the ground, just the whole ritual really.

People talking about Selhurst being difficult to get to, as an argument for moving to the park, I don't really get. I don't see how the park is more easily accessible to people. Especially those living south of the area. But also those coming from north of the river and beyond. Ten minutes to Norwood Junction from London Bridge. About twenty minutes from Victoria to Thornton Heath.

Selhurst Park is literally down the road from Crystal Palace and i don't mind staying there, what i don't like is this constant inference that we have no links with Crystal Palace anymore. That somehow we are Croydon's club or as the poster suggested representing Selhurst and thornton heath.
Crystal Palace FC being Crystal Palace FC is why i started supporting the club. I grew up in the borough of Lewisham not that far from Crystal Palace where the great building was, i get the feeling a lot of fans reckon people from the borough of Lewisham should support Millwall even if they live adjacent to the park whilst Crystal Palace FC represents places in the countyside in the borough of Croydon a long long way from Crystal Palace.
I grant you Arsenal was a wierd one but Chelsea play near Chelsea and we play near Crystal Palace.
Its a question of identity and i think it matters because kids from all the inner city boroughs will be put off any links with Croydon. I want us to be a South London Club from Crystal Palace and make some serious inroads north especially while all the other South London clubs are at a low ebb.

Did read a while back that cp park idea is dead and buried and we were looking at redeveloping sp with a school behind main stand and sainsburys involved to, i for one would like to stay at selhurst as im one of the 16 per cent and with lots coming from south of coulsdon and sutton way i would say about a good third to half of all support comes from croydon and surrounding areas, i would like a villa park type stadia like eastender, four different style stands2,3 and 4 tiers, but as i said, think we are staying so should get used to it!

We also lose our South London/Croydon identity and become a club from Kent f*** That.

You do realise that CPP is SE19. Or is that Kent to you. On my map, it is a bit closer to central London, but still south. When I was very young Croydon wasn't a London borough, although Selhurst was.The giveaway is the post code. DOH

CPP is now within the London Borough of Bromley so it has a BR postcode, not an SE one. I don't think it matters a jot mind you, and it still has a London telephone number (020.
