i'm really having trouble with football as an entity and especially this season. I pay my money to be entertained each weekend, thats why we watch football, an escape, a day out and to be entertained. In some ways, watching a 9 goal bounce around would be preferable to a dour 0:0 and yet in others (relegation) it isnt and the points and safety are the no 1 issue. I've not enjoyed much of watching Palace this season , either live or results-wise as its been so flat, I only hope we somehow manage to survive the next 8 games and next year stiffen up a bit and make more of a go of it.
The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years |

I go to Palace because they are my team, they have been for 34 years and will be for however long I have left. I go for the atmosphere and hopefully to see them win and competing with the best. If to satisfy all these things we need to grind out a season then so be it - I'm here for the long haul after all. I don't go for entertainment - I don't consider it a show where I must get my money's worth because I am a supporter not a customer. I get my entertainment from the above, but hey if we can spank in a few goals then even better but it's not why I go.

Agreed, It's all about meeting mates and having a few beers before and after the game and enjoying yourself, don't analyse the 'product' too much. We've always played sh!t football, we've always, been underdogs, nothing has changed this season apart form the fact that our owners don't have to come up with 3-5m quid for OUR enjoyment. Next year when we're still in the prem, we've got another £60m in the bank and we won't be the least attractive club in the division and we'll be able to attract better players. I have said this before, to me we are a club primarily. There is so much that makes a club, the game itself is only a part. The atmosphere is another really important part, the friendship, the feeling of community, the sense of ownership. Going to football, rather than watching it on the telly, is a complex experience that isn't all about pure entertainment. It's the taking part that is at least equally as important. On that basis, I am almost as interested in how well we sing and whether we do a display as I am in how the team plays.

I can't get my head around going to see Palace and being entertained. If you end up being entertained then happy days, but I have never gone to see us play with that mentally. Really don't understand that at all, but appreciate we all have different opinions. That said, I think the style and quality of football is very much a means by which TP hopes to use what he has to the best of it's ability, in a manner by which we will gain as many points as he sees possible. It hasn't gone right all the time, because we've played ok at times, and seem inconsistent in reaching that level. It goes without saying that how we are playing at the moment is a long long way from where TP envisions where we will be eventually. To contemplate not seeing Palace when A) we're playing poorly and B) there's every indication there is light at the end of the tunnel, leaves me absolutely stunned.

I can see us getting 11 points from our last games Edited by radsyrendot (24 Mar 2014 9.31am) If we get 11 points I'll get a new Palace tattoo. I had to get one after the playoff final as I said I'll get one if we go up at the start of last season!

God knows why I go then, because I normally go alone, don't drink at games, and don't hurl abuse. There's a difference between not caring about the football and not holding it as the means by which you decide to go or not. We'd all like to be playing like Real Madrid or Dortmund, but that's not why we are all here in the first place, is it? I didn't go to Palace to watch football, I went to Palace to watch Palace. If I wanted to watch good football, I've been going to the wrong games for years. I thoroughly understand the frustration and annoyance at a lack of attacking penetration, but when you look at the bigger picture, it's almost irrelevant, particularly when you look at the bigger picture beyond this season. I will never understand the mentally of genuine fans feeling like they are there to be entertained, and that includes members of my family. That's just not my mindset or view when it comes to supporting Palace, but is only my opinion.

When I go to the cinema to see a film, I go to be entertained and pay a price to do so, i'm not going so that Spielberg is kept employed or so that Tom Cruise can buy another million dollar house.I dont go to enjoy the asthetics of the cinema or the excellence of the lighting in there.
