The Holmesdale stand was only built because a grant was available.....

.

In actual fact there was £2 Mill Grant aid available from both CPFC and Wimbledon, however there was a delay in the planning process and in the meantime the 'Lottery' was introduced which effectively killed off the grant money.

All our on field success was due to Steve Coppell.

Nothing to do with Noades, who got lucky appointing a cheap young manager at the time who just turned out to be a genius.

.

Luck or sound judgement ?
Credit to Noades for appointing Coppell ! As for "On field success" it was actually Noades who scouted the likes of Bright, Thomas and Pemberton and he recommended them to Coppell. That said, the success achieved under Coppell would suggest that the appointment was a sound one !

Overwhelming LUCK!

Our success was made despite Noades penny pinching ways and shows how resourceful Coppell was.

Noades would have been too busy setting up his golf club empire to be scouting for players, but once they were on board he would have wasted no time trying to persuade them to switch to him and his wife's agency.

You quote a lot of unsubstantiated facts Willo.

Are you saying CPFC never received a penny towards the building of the Holmesdale stand and have you proof?

This is absolute tosh !
He spent hours and hours on the road scouting players and made many trips up to the north including to Crewe where of course he picked up Thomas and Pemberton.

You are correct Willo, but just need to put a bit more 'heart' where the money box sits!

I divulged details regarding the £4 Mill 'Grant Aid' money that was lost due to the introduction of the lottery.

The 'Holmesdale' was costed at £8 Mill, Noades was hoping to raise £2.3 Mill from long-term season ticket sales and was hoping for the £4 Mill 'Grant Aid' money which of course never materialised.

At the end of the day IF some of the money for the stand was from 'Grants' so what ?????
Not only did Noades build the 'Holmesdale' he had plans to extend it around to the old stand but this was thwarted because new houses had been built by the 'Council' and there was an issue with light.

Will be getting no recognition from me. Couldn't stand what he did when he was alive so wouldn't be hypocritical enough to change my opinion of him because he's dead. Any loss of life is sad but I'm not going to celebrate the man.

My post did make the point that it was not illegal (highlighted in red).

Whilst his actions broke no laws, he was hardly being a benefactor to CPFC as he had bought the club for a song and could have led Palace to even greater success but he chose to be greedy and cash in.

That behaviour does not warrant him being "honoured" by the club, in my opinion.

Yes, I can read.

So chairmen need to be benefactors to the club to fulfil your ideal of a chairman, perhaps you ought to mention that to CPFC2010, should they just plough all of their wealth in to satisfy your ambition? He bought the club for a song as it had been run down by the previous incumbent and no-one else wanted it, or put another way, he saw an opportunity and had the money to achieve it.

You've side stepped the question I want you and others to answer, why shouldn't he spend money made from his business?

I can read too.

If you can read why did you feel the need to point out something I had already acknowledged?

Why are you being so aggressive? You have an opinion and so do I. No need for it.

I have not "sidestepped" anything but made it plain that I do not regard him as a benefactor and therefore totally unacceptable as a potential candidate to be honoured.

Earlier you suggested that Noades was similar to myself (based on my right leaning politics and capitalist views I guess), but as far as Palace is concerned he is nothing like me - if I had a windfall I would donate it to Palace without question. I would not be looking for a return on my money.

Lets hope I've cleared that up without the need for you to be in my face about it.... LOL

I'm not being aggressive Hoof, there's not any point in pursuing this as you have again failed to answer anything I've asked you.

I haven't though?

OK, highlight for me where you have answered this much asked question, the one I've highlighted in red.

From your comments on this topic after this post, you seem unable to acknowledge that Noades did anything correctly, as I've said before, try taking your emotion out of the equation and look at the facts.

The Noades 'restructuring' of the 80's is classified by the FA as an administration, so he was the first to lead us down that ignominious road before Goldberg and Jordan.

Hogwash.
There was NO 'Administration' under Noades and you know it.

Like him or loathe him he took over a club on it's knees with gates under 6,000 and whilst he was at the helm we were promoted into the top division, made it to 3rd in that division, went to an FA Cup final, won the ZDS final in fact went to Wembley 5 times. And of course he improved the facilities with the building of the Holmesdale and Whitehorse stands. Not a bad record !

As I have said Noades divides opinions and of course this leads to interesting debates on HOL !!!!

I think I have said enough about Noades so nothing more to add. The Anti-Noades fraternity will certainly NOT change my viewpoint !

For someone who has nothing further to say you seem to have added another five posts since this one. Why say it if you don't mean it?

On the one hand you respect Coppell, on the other hand you detest Noades, why did SC always remain friends with Noades as did Bright and Wright and probably a lot of others. Stevie Coppell knew him up close and personal, if Stevie respects him then that's good enough for me tbh.

Noades should be honoured, everyone really except Goldberk who bought the club did their best by it and contributed significantly to it. Even Simon 'I'm a massive tw*t' Jordon.
