I don't care what anyone says the save at 2 34 is the best save I have ever seen

Amazing save. I have seen one better in the same goal. Did anyone remember Nigel Martyn's save vs Huddersfield? Literally launched himself accross the entire goal line to save an unmarked Andy Booth who had the simple task of tapping the ball into a practically open goal from four yards out.

To a man every supporter rose to applaud that save including the away section. It was crazy!

The first keeper I saw was Tony Burns (who stood in for an injured Paul Hammond) - god knows how many keepers since then but not one has come anywhere near Nigel Martyn

I missed Jacko by a season so never saw him to make a comparison

I recall Tony Burns made his debut for us away to Southend on a Friday night in September '74. Paul Hammond was never my Dad's favourite keeper, particularly in his early career after taking Jacko's place the previous season when Malcolm Allison dropped him.
After hearing that Tony Burns was going to play, my Dad decided to make the trip to Southend and saw us win 1-0 thanks to a Nick Chatterton goal I think.

Julian has done brilliantly for us and like many top keepers, gets better with age.

Jacko number 1 for me, with Martyn a close 2nd & Julian 3rd.

A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, at my age, I don't even buy green bananas!

No one has mentioned Any Woodman????

Or, indeed, Cedric Berthelin.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Nigel Martyn

John Jackson

Bill Glazier

Julian Speroni

Honourable mention:- Budgie

I've been going to Palace since 1963 and agree with the top 4 here at the moment. Given time Speroni can get to 2nd place I think.

I would say though that Burridge deserves a Dishonourable mention for going to QPR with Venables and deserting our club.

After ten years at Palace and a slow start, how does Jules compare with previous Palace custodians? After the much loved John 'Stonewall' Jackson, the mighty Burridge, the classy £million Martyn and many other good-uns, I'd rate him third or fourth. The new goalie's looking good and could push him.
When Jules was understudy to the Hungarian bloke I did think he was a bit flash and only insurance. Now I know he was better. But after years of George Wood and Philips, remembering the young Bill Glazier and massive Geoff Hammond and that amazing character Tony Burns, I really find myself wondering if Jules is perhaps the best of the lot. How do others rate the bloke?

I'm rating your memory Adrian you must be pushing 90. i can only remember back to Burridge..... Big george was pants but loved him nonetheless. Still remember gazza scoring that 40 yarder past him at St James.

Salako should be in the top five

Ha ha I remember that game !! Great save at the end.

Martyn is the best keeper we've had that I've seen although his goal kicks often went out of play to the right.

Jules is second only to him although honourable mentions for Suckling and Kiraly.

For us old 'uns there was only one: John Jackson.
Catch up with some of the ITV Big Match Revisited re-runs playing for us (and then for Orient when Alison kicked him out) to see what I mean.

In those days the pitches were awful and there was little protection from the referees from thuggish centre forwards. Most keepers these days would wilt in the face of these onslaughts. You just had to be fit, athletic and brave, and Jacko was - in spades.

Palace have had many fine keepers as mentioned but he was the best.
