I would be amazed if that was the case, but then again i was amazed at what happened to IH.

What manager doesn't get frustrated from time to time with restrictions on how much they have to spend on players,

The difference here is that Tony Pulis has only been at the club for a couple of months and it seems that he took a lot of persuading to join in the first place and only did after receiving promises of funds to buy new players in January

Is this fact or speculation? I never believe anything i read in the papers. When it is a report on a game that i actually attended, i find it hard to believe that the journalist was even at the game.

The Daily Mirror is the worst of the lot and they get so much air time on Talk Sport to spout their crap...

TP might be frustrated but he's an employee and on a huge salary and needs to get on with the job in hand. If he goes at the end of the season so be it but as we know its in his interests to stay and keep us in the PL as he will will make huge bonuses.

Perhaps not everyone is motivated purely by money. Tony Pulis has an excellent reputation as a manager and he won't want to lose that because of a chairman who promises him the earth to get him to join then breaks his promises once the ink is dry on the contract.

do you know thats the case?

i wouldav imagined (neither of us know) that there was a ballpark figure on money available for transfers, not an agreement to buy certain players.

I would think that the discussions were wide ranging and in far greater depth than that. Parish was appointing a manager on a reputed annual salary of £1.5m and you don't do that without going into great detail of the complete job spec

2010 arnt going to promise to sign certain players without even knowing what the details of the deal would be 3 months before the window opens are they?

ive heard a story about transfer budgets being based on points accrued before january which sounds plausible.

i cannot imagine 2010 wouldav told bare-face lies to get TP to sign a contract fella...thats just madness.

At the end of the day it's CPFC2010s money and club, they can do what they like. If that means vetoing a few players that don't make financial sense, then so be it.

Personally I am sure all at the club are working hard to get in good quality players, despite it arguably being tougher to attract quality than in the summer.

Oh and could everyone on here stop reading and then quoting stories from the mirror, or even stories that quote the mirror. Utterly terrible journalism.

Its the Mirror...no more needs to be said, however Pulis appointment and what he has managed to do in a short space of time has given us a great chance of actually pulling off an unlikely survival and he deserves backing financially to achieve it.

I'd agree he needs financial backing.

As, I'm sure, does the board.

What I don't understand is how some posters read our lack of signings as somehow indicative that the board isn't either backing Pullis or somehow reneging on an agreement with him to strengthen.

It's entirely possible that, when Pullis joined, he made it a condition that he was given funds to strengthen in this window. And it's also entirely possible that the board ok'd this but made it clear there was a transfer budget ceiling with a proviso that each signing's personal terms could not exceed the clubs current wage structure.

Pullis is no clutz and he wouldn't have agreed to join if the boards transfer budget and wage structure sounded ridiculous.

If both parties agreed to something like my entirely conjectured scenario prior to Pullis joining, then our current lack of signings is not indicative any 'lack of support or ambition' but more that January is , in the football league, a time of high inflation.

If there was pre-agreed financial ceiling then, the question is, should they break their agreement?

Although you do make some good points, I think you're too firmly in the anti-Parish/CPFC 2010 camp really. You don't think Pulis is motivated by money, yet he took a £1.5m contract? Also, your spin on the transfer scenario may well be true, and if that's the case then I agree that the owners should look to sell up. Equally, it could be the case that Pulis is in agreement with Parish, and no player has come along in the correct wage bracket. The two players we've been firmly linked towards, Dann and Sissoko, want more than the going rate, and it's probable that both Pulis and Parish agreed that they weren't worth it. Also, there's no chance that CPFC 2010 lied to get Pulis in the job, they're clever men and it's painstakingly obvious that that method would backfire.

Your story is quite possibly true, but it's based on small bits of evidence and I don't think you can follow it with certainty

I would have thought TP will walk if he doesnt get the players he has asked for.

Why employ a top manager, promise him funds and then dont deliver your promise. TP told SP that players were wanted at the beginning of the window, here we are in the last week of the window and not 1 player has crossed the line. What exactly is Ian Moody doing? He was brought in as the messiah for transfers as SP f***ed up so badly in the summer. Waste of money so far.

Those that think this squad of players can stay up are deluded, we are the lowest scorers in the league, please tell me where goals are going to come from?

Got to slacken the purse strings to stay up.

TP stated that it was hard to get players to go to Stoke, seems the same can be said for CP.

It' seems to be well documented that Tony Pulis would have funds made available. Pretty sure at the time of the interview how many funds wages and the type of players that meet the clubs and Tonys criteria would have been discussed. Tony mentioned that he is fully aware of the clubs history and why the club has to take the stand point it does regarding player fees which he said he understood.

if he quits then we dont have to pay up his contract...thats fine by me.

i know he is doing a good job,but i still prefer the owners choice of player signings over his.

at the end of the day...this is the 1st time in my lifetime (bar el tel) that weve actually had a big name manager at the club, its good, but you are bound to have more situations like this as a by product of employing such manager.

if he wants to bitch & moan then let him...in a weeks time he cant do anything about it and has to get on with his job for the rest of the season.

Bizarre that you'd trust an advertising man over a football man on football decisions...
