Not too sure of the date of this picture - but it looks like the tower of the Crystal Palace in the background - so taken at the original Crystal Palace?

How about this one:

So much potential we had at Selhurst but unfortunately robbed of a lot of space to build one of the finest grounds in london due Mr bloye and previous greedy chairman .
great picture.

Great picture. Before my time but I remember relatives saying that you could wander freely from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse or vice versa as the fancy took you. I'm told that the grass bank at the back of the AW was a good place to lounge on a sunny early season game.

Yes the grass bank was a wonderful place to relax and watch my beloved Palace. I think I spent most of my childhood on that grassy bank not only in sunshine but also in rain, ice and snow. It was wonderful!!!!!!!!>

Looks like the entire Palace was still standing when this was taken, so would be pre 1936. The two garden pavilions can be seen behind the ground so the tower would be the north tower that burnt down on the night of the fire (the south tower lasted quite a bit longer and was eventually demolished when it became unsafe).

At this time,I think all the FA Cup Finals were played here.

I think the first FA Cup Final at Crystal Palace was in the late 1800s and I think the last one was in 1914 but the final was also played in other venues in between.
I wasn't around then - I was born in 1952 !

Very nostalgic picture....ah, the memories!
I've never really accepted the need for seating despite what the experts say. Unless the ground was pretty near full it always seemed perfectly safe to me and the ability to change position at will was priceless.

This is me playing in goal for Sylvan High School in the Croydon Schools Cup Final in 1980.

"We're the Whitehorse we're the Whitehorse we're the Whitehorse over ere" great photo Seth.

Looking at these pictures of Selhurst brings back fond memories of all kinds,13-16 years old id be outside the programme shop at 10 am buying almost every programme I could afford them
16-20 yr old, monkey boots, hobnail boots, steel toe'd brown Dm's and lots of nail biting moments outside trying to be part of the Holmesdale Mob!
20-27 all sorts of shenanigans
Stangley Selhursts looks worse now than it did back in the 80's or id that because some of the best memories are back then?
