No chance, Penge. It's trendy to bash Britain and America and to say how terribly oppressive these countries are/were. We have to feel sorry for all these poor, innocent little countries who only act the way they do because they've been brutalised by the nasty, capitalist West.

Big it up for the Middle Eastern terrorists, the IRA murderers, the 'peaceful' Russians and Chinese, the excellent Robert Mugabe, the tolerant Burmese and all the rest of the unfortunates who have suffered so much at Western hands.

Sh*t on Britain and America, two countries where public dissent over government policy is permitted and encouraged. Take the blame forever over our colonial past which caused so much dreadfulness in the world, forget about the positives that came out of Empire. Publicly castigate the US which gives more money in more aid to more countries than the rest of the world put together. Be ashamed to be English, or even British... even though the tolerance in this country is admired, respected and envied by the rest of the world. Ignore the contributions Britain and America have made to technology, music, art and culture.

Ignore that the Iraqis have been liberated from a monster. Ignore the fact that our Muslim 'friends' expect and receive tolerance when they live here yet give no religious freedom or basic human rights in their own lands. Ignore that Zimbabwe now lives in poverty, as a direct result of Mugabe stealing the white-owned farms, selling them to his cronies and pocketing the cash.

You're ignoring history, Bexter. The US, as a former colony, is inextricably linked to this country whether we, or you, like it or not. That's politically, commercially and culturally. It's not a question of whom we pick as allies - they are an extension of us, unpalatable as that may seem to you.
