I remember going to Carlise in 1981 or 1982 and we lost 4-1, my 1st ever game away by train I have a similar bad memory. I went there with 3 mates by car pre-motorway, journey was dreadful, weather was awful, beer was rubbish, game was appalling lost 3-0 in FA cup. Can't find anything good to say about it at all. 3rd January 1966. I've had a flashback about this game, as you do when you're ageing somewhat. Prior to the kick off there was a small event in the centre circle, possibly a tribute to a Carlisle player Alan Ross their long serving keeper perhaps, where there was some sort of large toy animal on the centre circle adorned in blue and white. A Palace supporter appeared on the scene, not sure if it was by invitation or not but he proceeded to pretend to admire said animal and then kicked it up in the air, which did not go down at all well with the home supporters and made my friends and me, surrounded by home supporters pre-segregation, distinctly unpopular.
lo Selhurst silva felix, lo Selhurst cara nutrix, viget, vigeat, vigebit! Best team:- Jackson; Gilbert, Evans, Cannon, Sansom; Hughes, Kember, McNichol; Byrne, Holton, Wright. |

Was that the game where one of their players scored all 4 goals for them? Quote kenners46 at 06 Jun 2011 11.12pm

I don't remember it being that cold as the game was in september I think, but I'm sure I would've had one of my pringles on as well, probably light blue with two white hoops round the middle,it was standard issue back then

A match against Blackpool on a freezing cold late December afternoon in 1968 abandoned at half-time due to the pitch freezing up.
I was there that day, only game on in London so we made "The Big Match" the following day!

One of my best memories was going to the match against Southend in 1996. We were a little late, and I remember coming in and seeing Bruce Dyer missing the sitter of a century and thinking 'it's gonna be one of those days'. However, we then went on to win 6-1. Incredible!

Palace beating wolves 4-1 in the 70s danny light getting two goals, which meant wolves got promoted, but only as runners up. I think that game was longer ago .. 1967 I reckon. I was there and I seem to recall we beat Hull(?) 4-1 at home the week before. You are right about Wolves being runners-up - Coventry won the title.

Mid 80's Palace were denied a nailed on penalty, a Palace fan runs on the pitch chases the ref catches up with him we all thought he would lamp him but instead he then pleads for the pen. Same period going to a home game where the ref blew up 5 mins early. we all left got in the car only to hear the game had been restarted and they were still playing.
