11.4.89 Hull 0 Palace 1 An Ian Wright goal keeps the promotion push rolling. Players salute the travelling support before kick off. Note the dangerous spikes on the fence have been painted in Hull colours - how friendly!!

3.12.88 Palace 0 Man City 0 A very unusual occurence in those days - not scoring at home. One of those days where Andy Dibble saved the visitors time and time again. Pic 1: Thomas and Pembo in the foreground Attachment: h man c 0-0 3.12.88.jpg (202.02Kb)

17.2.88 Palace 0 Leeds 0 Shock and horror! Two home games on the spin without scoring. Coppell bemoans the fact that clubs - scared of Wright and Bright - put up blanket defences. Vince Hilaire went closest for Leeds. That week there was also transfer speculation with West Ham rumoured to be setting up a million pound bid for Wright, and even more alarming, Coppell expecting to sign Rudi Hedman from colchester in the week. 26.12.88 Brighton 3 Palace 1 Another defeat at the Goldstone and another poor performance, in front of 3,500 travelling Palace supporters. My main memory of the day was the usual gallows humour from our lot: On came Rudi Hedman for his senior debut and spotaneously Palace fans start a rendition of The Specials hit 'Message to you Rudi', with someone taking the lead 'Stop your messing around' and the rest of us backing with the 'ahh ahh ahh' bits..... It's one of my funniest memories on the terraces and just so typical Palace in the face of another Brighton humiliation. Pic 1: I think this is Bremner heading number one for Brighton. You can just about see Brian Parkin diving in vain. Infact, I believe this was his final senior game for Palace as Suckling returned in our next game and saw out the season. Same game: Pic 2: A 'blurred' Wrighty who got our goal that day - kind of summed up our performance. Attachment: a bha 1-3 26.12.88 ll.jpg (222.84Kb)

Thanks for the memories Bubbs. The amazing thing is me and my mate must have been standing only a few feet from the guy taking the pictures. Spent my early years in the Whitehorse Lane end.

If I think back now, I started in 80/81 in the whitehorse 'starter' terrace, then had a couple of seasons in the kids section at the front of the holmesdale, then went onto the AW, moving in around the singing bit in 1985. When the AW went all seater I went back to stand on the holmesdale.
