OK,we get it Stirling..you don't like people of a differing ethnicity to you living here... But,you forget one thing.....the main politician responsible for immigration to the UK from Eastern Europe is....that well known left winger and Labour politician Margaret Thatcher, the primary advocate of EU expansion eastwards in the 1990's... So Blair's refusal to veto Eastern European immigration wasn't to blame at all then? This article doesn't blame Thatcher Legal... Tony Blair simply failed to comprehend the significance of new EU rules which dramatically expanded the number of people who could settle in the UK, his ex-advisor claimed.

I was referring to your somewhat isolationist solution to our woes. What about cultural dilution, does it scare you? Well it would be nice to think that all culture could be somehow homogenised in such a way as to make it agreeable to all and yet sufficiently personal. Sadly, if such a thing were possible, it would be a very long and painful journey to such an ideal. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (01 Apr 2017 10.41am)

That is unsurprising considering you've alluded to the fact that if the world is in trouble, we should just isolate and only worry about ourselves.

Aaaah the Express. Fair play to them for mentioning the 20billion that immigration added to the treasury between 2001-2011

(a few posts back) Well, it wasn't that long ago that you were writing 2,000 word essays on here on how it was going to be impossible to fail. What's changed your tune? You're the toxic one with your fantasist, utopian no-EU ideology and do you know what's really laughable? You just have not an ounce of self-awareness to know it. Fair play to them for mentioning the 20billion that immigration added to the treasury between 2001-2011 Most studies find the impact of immigration in general is relatively small, costing or contributing less than 1% of the UK economy. Also, Migration Watch, reports that the financial cost of all immigrants taken together amount to between £4 and £17 billion a year.T A focus on recent EU migration reveals a significant difference as between the EU14 (older EU countries) and East European migrants. Migrants from the EU 14 benefit the Treasury by between £1.5 and £3 billion a year. However, East European migration costs between £100 million and £1.5 billion. These are not huge sums compared to annual public expenditure of about £700 billion a year. The figures are taken from work done by the OECD, CReAM and Migration Watch UK.

If their jobs were being done by British workers there would be a lot more money going back into the economy. So, it's good that immigrants pay tax for the jobs we allow them to take....sometimes unfairly....but a lot of them aren't as beneficial to the economy as a British worker would be. Well,Hoof...unlike you I don't see EU migration as something to which "blame" is to be attached..its a useful "alien other" thing for those of a certain disposition to blame for their economic and social woes... But,the point I was making was that without Thatcher there would be no Eastern European EU immigration at all at any point-full stop, because they would not have been in the EU....
