Marketing is a respectable, honourable, occupation which is poorly understood by know it alls without any direct experience of it. It involves ensuring that companies make things that people need and then telling people why they need them. That involves understanding trends and future requirements. It is totally unrelated to the kind of conman activities of low life agitators like O’Keefe who would quickly be rejected at interview. When the GOP turned its back on the likes of Mitt Romney it put its first foot on the path that leads to its ultimate demise. I

However many US states and cities have declared themselves Sanctuary. In most of these places it is illegal for state or city officials to help the federal government with this aim. Police officers are not allowed to ask the immigration status of a suspect and face the sack if they do. Texas is one of a handful of states who take the opposite view.

It doesn't involve convincing gullible people to buy rubbish they don't need to boost profits for the companies concerned? Well. This is news.

Anyone selling rubbish will quickly be found out, especially if the business depends on repeat sales. Any company doing that are not employing marketing staff they are employing conmen. The ultimate aim is, of course, to make profit for the shareholders but you don’t build a long term, sustainable business selling rubbish. You look ahead, see what people are going to need and then work with the development group to produce it. Bringing it to market and telling consumers about it is the secondary phase.

I thought Texas are doing quite a lot more than just asking people what their status is! I thought they were actively obstructing the Federal Agents from performing their jobs.

I hated the marketing people when I worked in the bank. They would go out and sell a financial product with bells and whistles and then expect me to deliver it at a cost that bore no relation to the price they were charging. I never trusted marketing and sales full of BS and never took responsibility and never hung around. A couple of years a couple of big bonuses then they were off to the next job whilst I had to clean up their mess.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I don’t know what your role was but tensions between those producing things and those deciding what must be produced are not unusual. Years ago I had a friend who was a draftsman for a furniture company. He was constantly moaning that their sales and marketing team weren’t doing their job. Which he perceived as selling what he had drawn and was already in production. He complained they kept asking for modifications, causing him long hours of extra work. I pointed out they were actually keeping him in a job because they were listening to the customers and ensuring they would make what was wanted and if they stopped responding someone else would fill the gap. Being internally popular has never been achievable by the marketing department. Being appreciated by management and the shareholders is.

Until then, there isn’t even a court to be out on the issue.

I had forgotten this but stupid decisions get made in every walk of life and things can go spectacularly wrong. As this proves. It doesn’t though change the underlying basis of the role.
