No, he wasn't wonderful for us, very good first half of the season, woeful second half of season.

Agree, Gallagher £40m or Lerma free, no choice really.

Lerma and Doucoure looked a very good partnership v Blades.

2023 Gallagher and Olise £40m.

1971 Stevie Kember £170,000 record fee Palace to Chelsea.

Beats the housing market by a long chalk.

Apologies but Chelsea's approach is the opposite of Moneyball which is where clubs without as much money use advanced analytics on players' stats to find cheaper options. It started in baseball with the Oakland Athletics and was quite successful until the rich clubs started using it as well as being able to sign the star players.

Yeah it's almost the antithesis.

I thought the whole 'Moneyball' thing was based upon getting unnoticed, high performing players cheap?

Chelsea seem intent on just spending whatever money to buy every player they can, most notably the favourite or high profile players at other clubs, and stockpiling them like Cold War ammunition.

Unless of course we are using 'Moneyball' as a reference to Chelsea just relying purely upon finance?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Yes, it is. Baseball produces hundreds of stats which when analysed using the metrics involved helps identify players whose aggregate contribution equals that of two or three expensive stars. Football isn't as good a fit for the system because it's harder to quantify what represents a key contribution.

In my opinion Gallagher only fitted PV’s tactics and I struggle to see where he would fit into our team with Lerma, Doucoure and Eze already in the team. He can’t play CF, he can’t play wide right or left and we know Eze is best centrally so you would therefore be moving Eze into the wrong position to fit him into the team. For me it just doesn’t work.

I would much rather have Madueke than Gallagher as part of the Olise deal.

Curious how football works, isn't it? Go back a year and how many would have picked Lerma over Gallagher? Based solely on the one game he looks a very good choice. If he can chip in with a few goals it'll be even better.

To be fair Teddy, I think lots of us have always thought Doucoure needed a Lerma type player next to him to take on some of the grunt work. Gallagher would have been too far advanced to fulfill that role.

I think it’s probably a case of Eze Vs Gallagher rather than Lerma Vs Gallagher hence why we don’t need him.

Sure, and I'd take Eze over any Gallagher from Conor to Liam.

Good job I wasn't!

Sadly, I suspect he will shine there... and score against us again.
