I'd quit while you're behind, mate... Sure I will, but if you said that to everyone you'd never get any action.

If memory serves....the club owned the land that now comprises Sainsburys and its car park. It was sold to Sainsburys back in the 70s by the then chairman, the loveable Ray Bloye. I don't know if it was all of the land now owned by Sainsbury's but the original sale was 1981. Looks like you are right and it was the club. As I've already pointed out (several times), the general public will have no sympathy for, nor lend any support, to us. They prefer supermarkets to PL football clubs who they perceive, not entirely inaccurately, to be awash with vast amounts of cash. Given a choice the locals would rather have a supermarket than a football club, especially one that's planning on expanding its capacity. It would really help if we knew what we're being asked to pay and for what; we only have Parish's opinion of what's extortionate and I'd prefer to make up my own mind before I get all heated about Sainsbury's. Let me try one more time. If a business finds itself in a monopolistic position it will of course use that to its advantage. You don't need many people to make an effective pressure group that can outshout other local and corporate interests if well organised. That can be used to mitigate the monopoly by using social and national media to make the company look unreasonable. Whether or not it is. I know this having suffered completely unfair attacks from Unions. They get away with it and so could we if we organise. Unusually we are a club with some organised pressure groups built in. Or we can roll over and give a large part of our transfer funds to a company that is maneouvring its way towards a huge windfall.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Maple, not only do we not know how much it is, we do t know what it is. Is it: The space equal to the penalty box behind the main stand at the wh end? Or is it the whole rectangular area shading the main stand to build the 2nd tier and the exec boxes? I don't deny that social media can be very powerful but you have to have more info than its unfair and we're not able to do what we need. We'll possibly look like idiots going in like this.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Being a huge company I have a feeling that all of the departments within Sainsbury's are probably quite disjointed. I'd assume that initial conversations were Sainsbury's where supportive were probably held with a store manager, who would only care about how many parking spaces the shop had. As things progressed the club would then have to talk to their real estate division, who are probably after as much money as they can get - which could have caused a deadlock. Parish has probably dropped this hint in public to try and talk to more senior people in the organisation who realise that if the company is seen to be obstructive it could damage their reputation across the region for years to come.

Could be onto something. Communication could be p1ss poor and it's highly likely their property business is handled by an agency, and therefore not joined up with views or decisions by those affected by the sale of land. What really needs to be addressed is parking, for us and them, but because we don't know what the plan is, we do t know if we're planning for our benefit only or our's and their's.

Why would anyone, other than a Palace supporter, care whether Sainsbury's are being 'unreasonable' or not? We don't even know what the details of the issue are for a start. But if you want to stand outside Sainsbury's with a placard saying "Multi-million pound business can't reach agreement with other multi-million pound business (details unknown)" then be my guest.

The same argument could have been made when this club was in danger of being wound up. Only Palace supporters cared. Lloyds certainly found out that this amounted to rather a lot bother for them. If Sainsbury prove to be a block on this club going forward then let's see how that works out for them. Personally I don't think that is going to happen and that a solution agreeable to both sides will be found.. Edited by Stirlingsays (08 May 2017 8.50am)
