Ard1 For your information I used to own a non league football club so I do have experience of running a football club, and we built a brand new 6.7 million pound stadium. You never discuss player budgets or make personal remarks about your staff on a public forum. If you want a Q&A evening then this should be a professional organized event. But just my thoughts.

Mark Goldberg by any chance?? No offence to you but running a Non-League club that normally has a far smaller fan base, in comparison to a Championship football club are two different things.... I am sure my wife's grandfather would agree with that as he was Vice Chairman at Sutton United!! The pressures I am sure are completely differential. As a fan of this wonderful club that makes me feel more a part of the club and I can only be grateful that we have people in charge like this. It is refreshing to see that the chairmen have these open forums on Palace sites rather than confine them to the club for a select few. It allows us fans to be more involved and for that I thank them. Of course you are going to get the odd few who ask too much or aren't going to agree, but I am sure they have come across that in their former lines of business. Anyway, onwards and upwards and lets hope Dougie starts off his temporary charge with a win against Preston tomorrow. Edited by Jonprogrammeseller (02 Jan 2011 8.21pm)

Thats pretty much running a business 101. Keep the budgets under wraps, and never release unoffical statements that come back to haunt you.

Cut them some slack guys, they are not Simon Jordan in disguise. Some frankness won't do any harm. We should be glad they are willing to be open with us. It won't help the opposition in any way that I can work out to know that our wage budget is higher or lower than someone elses. We need to win a few matches now. Getting decent players in will be a part of that and I am glad the owners realise that.

Excellent, thoughtful posts from NEILLO and syd. Doesn't matter whether I agree or not, it's the high standards of debate like that which make this site very much worth being part of.

While you are right that each person has his (or her) own style that does not mean there aren't standards of behaviour and taste in the world. Ard1 is thereafore also quite right to point out that if you do discuss those things in public, you're something of a wide boy (since no discriminating businessman would behave like that.)
