The Chancellor didn't say it would be a tax cut? You can abolish one tax and raise another. I think there is merit in abolishing NI. It mirrors income tax but the burden falls more on the poor. The original idea was to pay for pensions and health care but that link has long been broken, it just goes into a general fund. So it duplicates work collecting it and isn't fair on certain sections of society. I would abolish it and then adjust income tax to compensate. Edited by Badger11 (07 Mar 2024 2.32pm)

Completely bonkers and right out of the left's playbook. This government and governments....seemingly since Blair came to office..... hate working class white anglo saxons/celts and their religion of the time. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Mar 2024 11.35am) Look on the bright side they can have their own monument to desecrate at will, perhaps they will leave ours alone after that.

Post Truss nobody will lend to finance tax cuts. In all the interviews I have seen people feel this is a derisory budget that will make little difference to them. Grassroots Tories hit out at budget and say party is ‘burnt toast’ And what they are doing here is load future public spending cuts to pay for it. The next government, probably labour, will face 'stark choices' in 2025/6 severe cuts to unprotected public services that are already decidedly shaky. Sunak and Hunt continue to act as though the public are fools.

No I have not. I expect the Def was appalling under oath and told the court to f**k off which did not do him any favours. But I am not talking about what evidence was adduced, how that evidence was presented, who did what under cross, his previous offences and so on. I am focusing only on what he was charged with. On this, we are not dealing with a media gloss on the issue. The police officer was the only person who gave a carefully pre prepared statement to the press summarizing the charges and that was published in full. He is a senior officer who needs to demonstrate to the world and his superiors the "appalling" nature of the crimes, the good use of scarce public resources and the fact that the police deserve a pat on the back for putting a "dangerous" man away. It was only distributing and putting those stickers up. That is it. If there were more to the charges, the officer would have gleefully said so as the case was finished and reporting restrictions lifted. I know we don’t usually disagree but there is an interesting and actually quite important underlying issue in play here. Obviously I haven’t see the actual charges but it’s fair to assume that if he was found guilty of “intending to stir up racial hatred through the distribution of the stickers and encouraging racially aggravated criminal damage” then that’s what he was charged with. Not what was on the stickers, or whether it was factually accurate. Only what the intentions which lay behind their distribution were, together with encouraging others to indulge in racially aggravated criminal damage. It was the intentions and encouragement which were judged. Not the stickers themselves. They were merely part of the evidence. Evidence which according to the CPS summary was extensive and conclusive. I haven’t heard or read the policeman’s statement on the outcome so am unable to offer comment on what he said, whether it was accurate, full, or intended just to make points to others. Whatever was said doesn’t change what must have happened in Court. He was found guilty of intending to stir up racial hatred and encouraging others to commit criminal damage. Not of publishing stickers.

And now the stupid masses will vote in a party that will increase taxes and make them even poorer.

As stated, two years for interpretation of intent.....A 'thought crime'. That's what certain....influences....have brought this once great country down to. These people need deporting themselves. They are an embarrassment to what was once great. We are living in a country where suspended sentences are given out for actual violence, in some cases serious.....This guy gets jailed for 'intent'.....by a judge who admires a convicted terrorist responsible for killing people for what he believed in. How that particular judge got onto this case would be something to look into as well. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Mar 2024 6.54pm)

Intentions and encouragement are by far not limited to thoughts. If all Mr Melia did was think about things he would not have suffered any consequences. He must have done far more than that. He transferred his thoughts into actions, both physically and virtually. His actions were done with the intention of creating racial hatred and encouraging others to do criminal damage. So the idea that this guy has been jailed for a “thought crime” is right wing bs. It’s a barefaced lie of a pathetic excuse for someone trying to sow division.
