So a right wing newspaper hosts an oped on a progressive politician who is prepared to lead on issues, like climate change, that deliver outcomes that are unlikely to be popular in the short term? We need more people prepared to do that at the risk of being unpopular. Should be President. Being unpopular isn’t a common route to the Presidency. Voters tend to frown upon it.

Newsom, like Pelosi thinks he is part of an elite who are above the rules that apply to others, remember the Covid rule breaking lunch at the Michelin starred restaurant in Napa.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

It is therefore down to the parties to ensure they run candidates who will deliver policies that their country needs and not ones that simply get them into office.

But not untrue. I have scanned a few of the “claims”! They are exactly what I anticipated. Just political spin. At worst simply a matter of opinion. Many are attributing blame for things no politician has any control over or will take decades to rectify. For instance blaming him for high fuel prices, which is a nationwide problem caused by Putin, is just daft. Criticising him for water shortages caused by dramatic weather events thought to be the result of climate change is mega stupid when he is a leading advocate for climate change action. Every one could be analysed in the same way. This is political propaganda Trump style. It’s not responsible news reporting. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (15 Mar 2024 10.10am)

Good luck with that. Luck plays no role. It will be down to the much needed reform. Which will only arrive after a disaster. I may live to witness the disaster, or even die because of it, but am very unlikely to witness the reform. That though doesn’t mean it’s not obviously needed.

The world now is one of instant gratification. Politicians know this and exploit the fact and not run on policies which will only benefit future generations.
