Published in the California Globe a news website founded by someone with strong connections to the Trump family and known for its biased reporting. It’s about as reliable as Fox. It’s what Newsom has to put up with on a daily basis now, so would be well able to cope on the bigger stage.

In a representative democracy we pay people to know what’s best for us. They have the time to consult and the connections to do so. It’s their job. Ours is to choose who we ask to do it. Not to hand out lists of demands. That message needs to be preached until it sinks in. Of course trust in politicians needs also to be reestablished, as that’s long gone missing, and until the USA reform their system it’s unlikely. So we are in a viscous circle. People in London probably have next to no knowledge of what’s happening in Blackburn or Ipswich but they will have some knowledge of what’s happening in Ukraine and Gaza and much more about what’s happening in the USA than the average American does about what’s happening in the UK. I can’t fathom the approach of the DNC but Trump doesn’t have ideas that appeal. He just rewrites history and positions himself as a victim. Why people fall for it is the puzzle. I think it ought to be really easy to dismantle his stance and expose him as the fraud he is. Some do, but it falls on deaf ears. He has ideas which appeal to the extent that he's leading the polls by a distance. He's patently not that easy to dismantle or Biden's advisers would be doing just that.

Los Angeles and San Francisco are the biggest example of social variances in the US between the haves and the have nots! Nancy P and Gavin live in the Hollywood hills whilst a vast number live on the streets! Newsome is losing support in California at such a rate even the deep blue state is now not a shoe in!

Leading the polls by a distance certainly but because of his ideas? Not from where I look. He lead’s because people seem to think they were better off when he was President and are prepared to overlook all the things he did. We know people have really short memories and that with the constant repetition of the lies about him being a victim of a Democratic witch-hunt is enough. Add to that the weakness of his opponent, who is surely a better President but is far too old to take on another 4 years, and you can understand why he leads. It’s nothing to do with actual policies. Some fanciful promises maybe, but Trump throws them around like snowballs and they last about as long.

So a right wing newspaper hosts an oped on a progressive politician who is prepared to lead on issues, like climate change, that deliver outcomes that are unlikely to be popular in the short term? We need more people prepared to do that at the risk of being unpopular. Should be President.

But not untrue. Who knows? I don’t have either the time or the energy to research every claim tonight, nor probably tomorrow. What I do know is that the California Globe is no more a news site than Fox or infowars. It’s a propaganda merchant.
