Hodgson played the team the fans wanted on Saturday, but still no real passion from those who played.
No one including the manager can do anything to get the players to play with guts and belief... I'm not a Hodgson fan and didn't want him to come to Palace in the first place, but getting rid of him now is relegation for certain.

I don’t think raw passion is the missing ingredient. The players look like they care to me. I wonder if in fact the litany of stray passes and poor finishing at home this Saturday and in previous games is in fact indicative of players who are trying too hard? It might seem counterintuitive but it could explain our poor home form. Maybe we just need to relax a little; play with a bit of freedom.

When Roy made his end of season speech last year he clearly indicated that he thought the team had the potential to really do something special, so I suspect he is privately as frustrated as anyone.

There are some Roy shackles the team are carrying. Training is apparently regimented and repetitive, going over positioning and exactly what is expected. That was fine god the Pulis era but now when some creativity and freedom of expression is needed the players are possibly tense and frustrated. Maybe they have all a private W&nk just before kick off to relax a bit.

That will be the training that has seen us play pretty well away from home and gather a healthy number of points.

We all know it's the home form that needs improvement and that's largely down to chance conversion.

This is how it looks to me. They're shackled and scared to put a foot out of line because they know they won't play again if they're disobedient and, god forbid, try something off script.
This only ever goes on of two ways: terrible performances and results (already happening) or players down tools.

Either way the manager eventually gets sacked.

We are 8 points clear. Even as one of the most pessimistic supporters I think it's very likely we won't go down.

If players have freedom and confidence it's then passion, guts, and belief will come.

You can also train to improve composure in front of goal. Thinking clearly under pressure or owning the moment are two well used terms to describe it.

If the players are drilled again and again and told not to break rank then it's no wonder they down have freedom, or confidence, and aren't composed when they find themselves out of position.

Keep Roy to the end of the year, but it's time to start looking for someone new.

Of course they can. A major part of a managers job is to get them to do exactly that.

Might try that myself before the next home game ...

While this season might seem a bit 'meh' we nevertheless have the highest points tally we have had after 31 games since promotion (with the exception of Pardew's first season, where we had 39). I am disappointed to a degree, as I think we could be doing better. But to say that we are definitely dreadful under Roy is just nonsense and, while I DO think we should be looking to improve year on year, we really have to be wary of just expecting top half finishes. Rather, we should be happy with such a finish if that makes sense.

I think we are probably achieving parity with Roy. I think we wouldn't go down with him in charge but I also don't think we'd break the top 8.

The idea that relegation is a certainty if we get rid of Roy now, on the other hand, is laughable. We could put a chimp in charge and stay up currently.

Ok so whilst most on here are complaining that Roy has his favourites and wont change the players even if they're playing badly, you are saying Roy is at fault because he changes out players that make mistakes.
What I say is that whatever Roy does with the team people on here will find a way to criticise him and for me that is just for the sake of it most of the time.
Now I do not think Roy is beyond criticism but I do think that overall he is doing a good job

I didn't say that at all. I said he drops players that disobey him.

Clearly, you can play as terribly as you want and make as many mistakes as you want so long as you don't go off script.
