Edited by Shifty97 (05 May 2017 12.26am) It's not such a simple issue. McCarthy was given a run in goal and moved on by management. Mandanda started the season has suffered a mysterious injury and from what is being reported in the press wants out. Whatever the truth in that he has in the past demonstrated he is a good keeper but for some reason isn't even on the bench. Speroni comes with a huge amount of nostalgic support from fans but has suggested when given the chance recently that his best days are behind him. Right now WH is the only real option we have. I suspect we willmake our annual keeper signing and pity whoever it is as within a week or two these boards will be baying for his head.

Hennesey has acted as a good buffer between a legend being replaced in goal. And I imagine most will be only to pleased to see a new long term number one in place.

Hennessey and Ledley I think are out of contract at the end of the season and it would not be a surprise I they ended up at Wba next season Think Hennessey has been better than Mandanda, and a bit like Kelly gets unfair blame for any game we lose.

Thanks to Ray in Houston for posting the link to the stats. I suppose you could argue that Begovic is the worst keeper to have appeared in the PL this season as he is 39 out of 39. I know no one has argued that and nor are they likely to, but it does show the risk of relying just on the stats. WH simply doesn't inspire confidence and there is plenty of evidence as to why that is. But I absolutely agree that at the moment he is the best we have and, regardless of anything anyone on here thinks, Sam will choose him for our remaining fixtures and we should all get 100% behind him. We will then see what the summer brings.

Speroni didn't have a clean sheet in his last 12 games of that season and spent most of the year pushing out shots for the follow-up attacker to tap in, or flapping at crosses. You talk in your subsequent post about 'Hennesey-lovers' - I doubt there are such tings. He makes mistakes, yes, like all keepers do, but not 'basic' mistakes all the time like you are suggesting. As I have said many times on here, best if Speroni retires in the summer, and Hennessey and Mandanda both go, and we start afresh with someone next season who we can all get behind without being influenced either way by who has gone before.

Just remind us of our league positions when Speroni was in goal since our return to the top flight please CPJ. Do you feel that those goals conceded effected that at all?

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

That is an exaggeration but even so, Hennessy does the same and worse so I don't understand how he is an improvement
