I think that's true of some of their members, particually the founders, but it seems in recent years they've been expanding out from the UK Independence from Europe, into a wider political spectrum. But arguably, yes, job done, and I think that's why their head man stepped down (again). I think feasibly its 'job done' for him (regardless of the fall out). I suspect they'll struggle now, Farage's charisma and political savy was quite extensive. Whether the new leadership can manage to replicate that is a big ask. UKIP must campaign on wider issues if they want to survive but all the time we are subjected to the yin of the loopy left, liberal whine, we will have the yang of right wing dismay.

The SNP has a rather easy situation, as its only opponents are the Scottish Labour party, and they beat it by simply appealing to its core base, whilst New Labour were busy f**king over their core base. Free Prescriptions and Tuition Fees were a relatively easy price to pay, and they hold significant seats in the UK parliament whilst still retaining the easy of being 'opposition' (i.e. never having to deliver). If they actually had to run a country, as an independent state, then they'd be accountable for their failures (rather than blaming the UK Government) and also have to rationalise their economic spending according to Scottish Tax Revenue. Problem with Nationalist movements, is they tend to make good opposition parties but very poor governments.

I see that Toyota are investing £240 million in their UK factories. Bloody Brexit, I expect it would have been £240 million and 99p if it wasn't for the appalling uncertainty generated by the insane decision to leave the EU.

It is not so simple as that as you know. 'the European boss of Toyota warned tariff-free access to Europe was vital to the future success of the plant'. That is roughly the position with Nissan and Peugeot-Citroen whether they will continue in the UK is subject to review understandably but its not guaranteed as the tories are making out. You don't mention either that the taxpayer has contributed 22 millions to this deal the govt. can not bribe every company to stay. Tariff-free can only mean single market do they know something we don't?

How many other countries offer incentives to attract massive investment, you call it a bribe, they call it training and research monies.

Tariff-free can only mean single market do they know something we don't? I guess it would depend on how much that plant is worth in tax revenue. If it generates say 50-60m a year in revenue, a one off payment of 22m is a good call. Of course companies will be partially gambling on the fact that the UK will have to massively low corporation taxes etc if tariffs raise against the UK.

What do year make of the EU wanting customs on the Irish border? It couldn't be policed with thousands of soldiers, 50 customer officers isn't going to make a difference. With regard to immigration, people could fly to Dublin, go to Larne and get the ferry across. No passport control between Ireland and Northern Ireland and there's no border between Northern Ireland and Britain.

FTSE 100 at record high again - bloody Brexit, think how much higher it would be without that suicidal decision of the people. Edited by hedgehog50 (17 Mar 2017 8.28am)

Mmm,,, In 1929, economist Irving Fisher was jubilant, like you. “Stock prices have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau,” he rejoiced in the pages of the New York Times. On Sept. 3, 1929, the Dow Jones Industrial Average swelled to a record high of 381.17. Any idea what happened next?
