Oh well that's me done being a smoker; although the story that smoking helps ward off C19 went quiet. You smoke? Really? Killing yourself, and others through passive smoking? And then expect everyone to listen to dubious speculation on 'long covid'? Think about it. If you were really that worried about dying from a lung disease, you might consider quitting the fags!

My point wasnt being righteous it was that a report early doors put smoking as a potential resistance to C19. Just that. If it was proved I could welcome you to the club.

I do find it a little strange Cryrst that you have such strong feelings about the dangers of Covid and yet you smoke, which we all know is the biggest killer of the lot. Maybe if you could put Covid into the thought process that you have for smoking you might be a little less concerned. I reckon if you were to list all of the ways you could die and put a percentage chance of it happening to each one, I bet Covid wouldn’t even make the top 10 unless you already have another pre-existing condition. I don’t wish to be critical of you for smoking because it’s your choice and as an ex smoker myself I know how difficult it is to pack up but I do struggle to reconcile your thinking given smoking would probably be in the top 3 of the above mentioned list.

It's not really a comparable concern. To my view smoking is certainly ill advised, but one of these situations results in something that may impact you after decades, and the other is a virus that either does or doesn't impact you in the moment. As such for those in the most impacted demographics it would make sense to be more immediately concerned by the latter. Edited by BlueJay (12 Sep 2020 5.36pm)

There is no 'may impact' you with smoking for the vast majority....you really need something like the 'Churchill gene' to avoid serious affects and that's a small percent of us. It will impact your health within weeks depending upon usage level and while it's a bit of a chunky comparison it will definitely kill a far higher percentage of people who smoke than this virus will kill those who catch it. It's just why the reaction to this has been pure hysteria compared to how we economically react to cancer or heart attacks and strokes. It's fear of the new...fear over holistic reason. Not sure if you are being flippant here. But let's assume you're not for the time being. Taking up smoking to reduce the chances of getting a virus (that probably won't kill you) is as ludicrous as shutting down the economy to try and stop a virus (that probably won't kill you). The cure is deadlier than the disease.

By the way, you may have noticed that the media are now reporting positive tests instead of deaths. This is because positive tests are rising. Scary stuff. How about reporting deaths, which aren't rising? Or if they do mention deaths, reporting a low figure with the caveat that they died "witin 28 days of testing positive"? Which means if they die in a car crash, or commit suicide, it's a C-19 death?

The family indoors sharing stuff.
