One thing that is apparent is that whereas previously we had gone in for seasoned pros who had been round the block a bit and therefore were good for our survival strategy at the time, we have now started to invest in younger talent with potential. It seems obvious that clubs with some cash to spare will start paying attention to those younger players who have already started to shine for us. It's a new problem for the board to think about: how to keep your best assets and /or how to maximise the sales potential should offers come in. I’d like to think we carry on buying cheap and then selling up and coming stars for a whacking profit. It doesn’t become such an issue if they are replaced by new talented youngsters. It’s what Brighton are doing, but I think we all acknowledge that identifying and buying at the right price is key and it can be very hit and miss. Perfect examples Meyer Vs Eze, or Riedewald Vs Doucoure. If we can identify, buy, develop and sell on one player a year then that does wonders for the P&L account. If we’re to take that view we have Olise, Eze, Guehi, Doucoure that cover the next 4 years of profitable sales. If we got say £45m/£50m for Andersen this year, I would take it as he is the oldest of our best players. If we can replace him for half that amount then job done.

How many times have we done this in (say) the last five years?

I pretty much agree with this line, you have got to admire what Brighton and Brentford have done in the last couple of season’s and it is a good business model. We also need to see some fruit from the academy set up too. I want to see Rak Saki given some game time….

To counter argue this I would say that if you followed Brighton’s transfer news you would read a lot more headlines. We just see and hear Palace because that is who we support.

They probably do have their rumours that are just that. But they have raided S America, Europe, and other parts and brought in players such as McAllister, Cuicido, or what ever plus other with little or no waves. We it seems according to the media only seem to get into deals that cant possibly happen, we get it every year. The two I mention can only be a joke. Extortionate prices, and competition from the biggest names in our game. You couldn’t make it up . But of course they do. Edited by Putitout (25 Jul 2023 11.07am)

Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure, Eze, Olise, Edouard, Lerma and a couple more recent signings. All done nice and quitely.

I wrote that before I had seen his alleged salary. Still not sure his brother has been a great influence but Wilf is happy with him so that’s all that counts
