I'm not too sure about suggestions that either Potter or Rodgers would be suitable managers for us. True, Rodgers is available now, but he never seems to demonstrate much passion and that's what we need after Patrick's lethargic performances. As for Potter, call it infantile, but for me he still has a flavour of Brighton about him and he hasn't been at all convincing at Chelsea.

I would like to see Paddy make a huge impact during the remaining games to the extent that Roy influences Mr P and the Board and recommends him for the permanent role. He has shown considerable ability with the U21s and is a loyal Palace man. I vote for Paddy.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

No to Rodger’s and no again. Offers nothing to a club like Palace.
I’d say yes to Paddy in Championship but that is not going to happen now.

Another thing about Rodgers is he's rumoured to be a club yes man, as long as he gets his rewards. In our case, I want a manager to say when players are obviously required - our board seems to need a kick up the Arthur.

Vieira did but the board didn't take any notice

I wouldn't go with Paddy at this stage.
It would be a huge risk given his lack of experience or track record at senior level.
He's never even managed a club at any senior level with his experience confined to younger players.
To say he would be a realistic choice seems to me to based more on sentiment because of his Palace links as opposed to an assessment based on professional credentials.

It's by no means a straightforward decision.
When Allardyce left he thought Chris Wilder would have been a good replacement given his unbroken success at every level culminating in achieving promotion and keeping Sheffield United up against all the odds.
However, since then his record has been shocking.
It's so unpredictable with the flavour of any given month eventually seen as useless.

I do think we avoid vanity projects where a big name manager think they are doing us a favour (Gerrard, Lampard).

Ultimately though I suppose all managers end up failing with ever shortening tenures at clubs.
It's the nature of the profession.

I wholly concur with these comments.

It was noticeable yesterday that Roy was chatting quite a lot with Ray just like in the old days yet this time round Paddy is supposedly the Assistant Manager but it seems that although he has the job title he may not actually have the job

Was that the case or was it just the spin put on it by people who turned us down for other reasons

Serves Chelsea right. It cost them £15m to get Potter from Brighton and they'll have to pay him around £50m if they sack him. On top of the £7m Tuchel got to leave.

Potter will not be a Palace manager, he doesnt need to manage us. Money, he doesnt need, potential to get into Europe limited, why would he come here?

After yesterday, give Roy a ten year contract!

It will already take the younger managers like Arteta 30 years to pass him as being the oldest manager to win a game in the Prem!

This is a PL record Palace could hold forever! And it's been set by a Croydon boy. Gives us all hope!

In Roy we trust!

55 years on the Palace rollercoaster!

I was making a broader point that great players make even very good managers.
The recent consistently high performing managers include the likes of Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho and Klopp.
Even their best friends wouldn't classify them as great players in their playing days.
Great players, often naturally talented, seem to struggle in conveying simple messages to lesser players.
Even in our own case Hodgson was reputedly not much of a player and has made a long and relatively succesful career through his coaching.
With regard to Lampard I don't know if there was ever a genuine prospect of him joining before Vieira being appointed, but the rumour was that he was interviewed but withdrew from the process when he wasn't offered the job straight away with other candidates due to be seen.
