She was under the age of agreed majority in this country. Therefore the state owes her a duty of care, despite every single one of your well reasoned and argued points. My belief that she should be returned is nothing to do with her as an individual. But we either have 18 as the agreed point at which an individual becomes 100% accountable for their actions or we do not. She was under that age when she made the choices she does. The country owes it to itself to offer a second chance, no matter how much that sticks in the craw. And trust me, I write none of this with anything other than a heavy heart. But we have to be better than those IS savages. We cannot sink to their level. We have a rule of law and a common law principle of duty of care. For me that is worth more than just one very very stupid girl.
I do have a degree of respect for your perspective, as it could be said that my view is partially coming from a point of emotion rather than structure or rule of law. The more we deviate from that the more we drift towards, as you say, the very mindsets we should be differentiating ourselves from to begin with. If she was still a child now I'd likely have more sympathy for her, though of course at the time she was, so that for some will be the pertinent fact. She has come across as rather dim in her interviews, which is probably what led her to make such a disastrous decision rather than anything darker. But if someone can get drawn into this stuff once, and isn't that bright, could something similar happen with them again? With so many unknowns, I guess I settled on the idea that it primarily becomes complex if and when she returns, rather than if we don't allow her to. Though the decision is made now it seems!

I see where you are coming from, although she was “grown up” enough to use her sister’s passport to leave the U.K. and to carry off the deception at the airport. Once she has returned she will never leave as she has no other citizenship. Personally I feel she should be tried as an adult and take the necessary punishment. Don’t forget her husband is Dutch so it would not surprise me to see him in the U.K., living at taxpayers expense very soon

I am tedious about it, and have zero emotional investment in arguing the point beyond the simple fact that we are better than IS in every concievable way. And we simply cannot stoop down to their level. This is not about her as an invidivual but us as a nation. And we have to be collectively willing to swallow an understandable amount of justified bile when it comes to this girl and letting her come back into the fold. This is not about forgiveness but rather the rule of law. Let her return and then, after being tried and punished, slip into obscurity. The only thing I would love to find out is if she ever 'owned' one of those poor Yizardi ladies who IS enslaved. If she did, then that is the person to spit in her face and have the last laugh. Channel 4 did a fictionalised account of these rancid individuals who joined IS and in one of the stories, a British girl did end up having a Yizardi girl as a slave. When the Yizardi girl started to sing, and refused the order to stop, my heart wanted to burst with a mix of happiness at that small act of resistance along with sadness that they were forced into that plight in the first place. f*** those joyless, miserable, motherless Islamic state f***s. How much tax payer money has been wasted on this person. I would guess now into the millions, absolute disgrace. If she returns and is imprisoned after a lengthy trial, more money down the drain. It is completely exasperating. She is not a schoolgirl, please stop calling her that. Edited by HKOwen (19 Jul 2020 1.35am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I believe the defence will be she was a minor, maybe she will slip into obscurity but I sincerely hope no newspaper/book publisher/filmmaker stoop so low as to pay her for the story but I won’t hold my breath Edited by Spiderman (19 Jul 2020 6.59am)

Terrorists are pathetic attention seeking scum. I don't need to know their name or life story and the MSM would do us all a favour if they just printed the name once in small letters somewhere in the inside pages, like when a paper apologies for libelling someone. I suspect that the lavish attention that they get inspires others to copycat so why give them the oxygen of publicity.
