Work harder for longer, pay more to a pension that gets further and further away every few years.....whilst your masters avoid as much tax as possible and live off the backs of your toil and your rental payments as they own most of the property in the country whilst being blissfully free of the everyday stresses and pressures of the average person's life. If there's one vague compliment you can pay the millionaires masquerading as our government, it's that they really know how to look after their own. Edited by Mr_Gristle (22 Apr 2017 8.36am) Well before the privatised freedom loving tories weigh into the argument actually the average private pension 'pot' is only £17,000 according to HMRC. Of course it depends on your circumstances but if we assume that is to be taxed and with admin charges you are only looking at a one time payment of £12,000. It makes the state pension look an enormous bargain and you will be glad of it. Our German friends from the terrible EU can look forward to good pensions and actually having a retirement.

How are the Greeks doing? Part of that wonderful German pension is down to keeping southern Europe in an effective slave/owner relationship.

Although by no means not responsible for their predicament, the Greeks have been royally stitched up by many with huge interest rates, the country asset stripped with public services being sold off cheap as part of a deal. How are the ex steelworkers in Redcar doing?

The Tory dream of us lackeys working ourselves to death is becoming reality. We are not far off living until death with no retirement or pension as the age for retirement increases beyond the level at which we can expect to be dead. However we will be paying more in taxes and insurance to be rewarded with no pension at all. The above may be a general comment but is it not happening? Not really no. The problem is that since the introduction the state pension people live longer. That is an inescapable fact. The additional cost of an ageing population has to mitigated somehow and pension is an obvious and the right way to do it. You have some people eligible, to retire at 55-60 and will live another 30 years. Why would people not work longer? It seems an odd concept that when someone reaches X age, that they can just kick back and relax for nearly as long as they ever worked. As for diminishing pensions, the triple lock has to go as the state pension is unsustainable currently.

I was addressing the the last point, the blatant bias of which casts doubt on the rest of the post. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (21 Apr 2017 8.56pm) It wasn't blatant bias. Another point missed. You will find that most Labour MPs have been fighting to retain DB style benefits for most workers public and private. Not as massive as their own, but they were not actively reducing other Civil Servants' benefits whilst benefiting from the most generous scheme in the country like the Tories.

I do agree with that about Greece but they are a complete exception in the EU. The German pension is down to their industrious nature they do in 3 days what takes us 5. Also good politicians no matter how hard you work there is no point if the politicians screw it all up.
