So who's in charge of the Supporters Against Sainsbury's campaign. This would never be happening with Lidl. I would volunteer to stand outside a local Sainsbury's with a placard, and I ain't even joking. Edited by Mapletree (06 May 2017 10.03am) Another of Corbyn's comrades !!!! Best thing for Sainsbury's would be Palace moving. Then they get their grasping little mits on half a prime housebuilding site Remind me who it was who sold all that land to Sainsbury's? If we've now suddenly decided we want bits of it back, we're either going to have pay the asking price or come up with a different plan. Most people would find the prospect of a PL football club pleading poverty beyond laughable. As I've already said, we don't hold the strongest hand here and, if we want a new stand we're going to have to either put up or shut up. Of course Sainsbury's, plus almost the entire local population, would be grateful to see us gone. We'll get no sympathy whatsoever from the general public. A good start, as already mentioned, would be for Parish to tell us what this "extortionate" amount is and what exactly it's for; then we can all make up our minds whether we agree or not. They see the amount of money in the premiership and ask an extortionate amount. Who wouldnt.

That's an interesting question Ken. When we submitted, and had approved, plans to build a club shop/offices on part of that carpark, there was mention in the documentation of agreement being reached with Sainsbury's for the plans. I've now found the planning application: 2a states "the Crystal Palace car park is leased by Sainsbury's to the football club, and is separate from the Sainsbury's car park". So Sainsbury's own the whole thing, therefore "sliver" it may be, but it's a sizeable sliver.
Thanks, Bex. I think this is a matter of how much money Palace ownership is willing to pay Sainsbury's, as many posters have said. Given the only gain for Sainsbury's is financial, as they can't use the car park for themselves, squeezing every last quid for their co-operation is not good business on their part. Perhaps the next step is buy the car park from them with the implied "suggestion" that they will suffer a PR hit from angry Palace supporters. The flip side of all this is perhaps the surrounding homeowners have gotten to Sainsbury's and threatened a boycott if they agreed to allow Palace to rebuild and expand the Main Stand.

If we don't like the price of a "sliver" Ken, I doubt we're going to like what the price would be for the whole car park. I don't think sticking out for the price they want will do Sainsbury's the slightest harm whatsoever; you must have a pretty good idea what 'the man on the Clapham omnibus' thinks about PL football clubs? A few thousand upset Palace fans (and we don't even know exactly what we're upset about yet) really isn't going to bother Sainsbury's. It's a take it or leave it deal for them. They will still receive whatever it is we pay them under the lease and they'll still own the land in the event we do decide to move on at some point. I really do think we need to either put up or shut up on this one. We want something they've got and they're not bothered whether they sell it to us or not; that's not exactly a position of strength for us.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Sometimes you think you are being funny but you are deeply unpleasant. My point is that, as Ken pointed out, pressure coming from locals may mitigate to some extent the monopolistic situation in which Sainsbury's finds itself. The only way to pressurise it into reducing its demands and speeding the development process is by hitting it in the pocket.

By sliver, does that mean the land needed to build? It's hard to follow these things from far away, I think it's a safe bet to assume so, particularly as Parish is claiming that our plans are being held up because we're being asked to stump up an "extortionate" price for this supposed "sliver". If we actually knew what we're being asked to pay for what, we'd all be able to give an informed opinion on whether we're being shafted or not.
