Stirling - I do not always agree with you but your post above is excellent in my opinion. Essentially fear not logic has dictated the national course. For me, wherever emotion and not reason decides the route the destination is unlikely to be fruitful. I can understand the why because - if Boris had done what he wanted to do originally - then the hysteria would have been mindblowing - but it is a shame that they didn't take a deep breath and go down that different route. Edited by The Dolphin (11 Sep 2020 6.55am) I'm with you Dolphin, the need to put this behind us and accept the new virus as a reality has never been greater. Even within the Tory cabinet there is a huge frustration from some ministers that this latest '6' requirement works against the need to mentally and nationally accept that we need to get on with it. Instead we get the fence sitting once again....seemingly nonsensical balancing acts which in truth play both sides.

Anyone basing their decisions on government statistics is foolish tbh. It’s moved onto ‘what about Spain and long Covid.’ All elderly people I’ve spoken to agree it’s absurd when they’re going to isolate anyway. Spain and France have different family mixing and touching, hugging and kissing cultures and France would kiss anything if a 3-4 hour lunch was to follow. The people at risk and those around them have got the message because the warning messages were so strong. Too strong yes. But we’re going to have unnecessary rules and otherwise useless w***ers with clipboards costing a frigging fortune trying to stop the spread of a weakened iris that isn’t getting to vulnerable people because they know or want to shield themselves. But what these fools are doing isn’t conservatism in taking people’s choice away (well trying to) of whether they do or not. This new long Covid attempt by lockdown creatures I do not buy. The guesses of numbers, well not even numbers, just percentages, are all over the place. No mention from the NHS. Nothing. And it’s as if nobody ever had a battle after being ill before. Unfortunately too many people have had this rammed in their faces and lost all perspective. I’d go as far as to say if this was before 24 hour news and social media that we may not have even had a government press conference. I tip my hat Rudi. Excellent point after excellent point. I wonder at what point the narrative in the media will change.....I have little doubt that once the tax rises and job losses increase more will break cover...while still finding a way to defend their own part in it. Whatever sells the most copy and gains the most clicks. Edited by Stirlingsays (11 Sep 2020 7.32am)

Probably been getting tested without any symptoms so they can get weeks off work with private sector workers of big companies who don’t like their jobs. Oh their kids schools or years get closed down as well. My wife works for BF and has been working throughout, she has not once been offered a test. Do not believe social distancing is being prescribed at airports or that they have intensified their cleaning regimes, she has not seen a cleaner for over 2 weeks. Although p/t she does 10.5 hour shifts so seeing no cokes need is staggering

Definitely a case of &rse covering has gone on. Follow the scientists (which ones?) the opposition did the same! Follow the crowd of govts. It’s safer politically, even if it’s wrong! Someone I follow on Twitter who’s a former head of Pfizer in respiratory research has just spoken on Talkradio. If he was allowed to speak on MSM he could get through to people and the government. He actually thinks the government are wedded to Professor (erm, yeah) Neil Ferguson’s 500,000 model (geared from 1% mortality rate) that they won’t let go of it. And SARS-1 and MERS that were similar novel viruses didn’t have a 2nd wave and neither will SARS-COVID-2. I’ll keep an eye out for the interview and post it here. It’s unfortunately with Julia Hartley-Brewer who can’t stop herself from interrupting and waffling nothings.

The Telegraph: "Boris Johnson’s coronavirus marshals have been dismissed as “Covid Wombles” by the police after it emerged they will have no powers to enforce new restrictions" Even the Police are now ridiculing the Govt plans. Extraordinary.

The first crack in the dam? Scottish Health Minister admits that the virus tests are “rubbish” Astonishing admission though not really surprising..

Age. Deaths Of course every one is an individual tragedy but surely protecting the most vulnerable would have been preferable, particularly since these totals include those unfortunate people who’ve died at any stage of any cause.
