It's distressing when you see reports of massive over payment for basic things like A4 paper. A procurement shake up would be a good start. And the senior management salaries are eye watering. The constant stream of medical negligence claims and systemic issues at hospitals are a scandal. The NHS has become untouchable when it is incompetent, IMO. Reminds me of the USD20 screws the USAF used to procure, and the USD 10,000 toilet seat covers.
Some things are too big to fail but also too big to succeed. The NHS is this exactly!

I suspect the Burnham campaign will start at the conference, in terms of solutions or alternatives he is just Starmer with a Coronation St accent

CP, I don't see the country going down the pan but some of the measures taken to fight the pandemic have been in hindsight plain silly. Talking of hindsight, have yet to see any opposition MP come up with alternatives to the strategy. It's easy to bleat but but if no alternative idea then they should STFU. The measures in UK pale compared to what we have here now. Masks are compulsory almost everywhere, you can remove in a pub or restaurant once seated but for example, if you are in a buffet you must wear the mask when you go to get food. F and B staff have to be vaccinated and tested once a week. Depending on what hours the venue wants to open, if a late to 2 am they can only have vaccinated customers after midnight. Recently a pub was checked and had one unvaccinated customer, they were punished by having to close at 6 pm for the next 14 days. If you fail to scan your tracking and trace QR code entering a place you will be fined £500 , no debate. TBH, no one here minds wearing a mask, we have had the nightmare of SARS before. Regardless of what politically motivated non maskers say, some protection is better than nothing. Also people have have a culture of wearing masks because of pollution or if they have a cold. The issue here that is most frustrating is even if you are double jabbed, if you travel outside HK when you return you are forced to do 14/21 days quarantine in Govt sanctioned hotel which is very expensive and in limited supply. This is unlikely to change until possibly the end of March so the many people who wanted to spend Xmas in UK are fooked, as are families with kids studying in UK. I was hoping to be back from mid December, now looks more like March. At least we can meet up now to watch Palace 3pm games, but when the clocks change we're screwed as games will finish 1am here and pubs will close at midnight. No exactly about Starmer but hey ho Originally posted by croydon proud
