You kind of know that. "My mistake"... my ar$e! What did you mistake your a&se for? If a Government wants to implement change it can provided it operates a three line whip. Unless its own people object to the change that is.

Her behaviour goes well beyond 'in with the wrong crowd' so I have no heartfelt desire to see her come back. I don't demand that anyone is draped in the flag, but if your lack of allegiances reaches the level hers did, then I can't see a route back. Her two friends are thought to be dead not because they made a silly teenage choice, but because they made a catastrophic decision. If she had never left this country and bought into warped ideology here then fair enough it's our problems to unravel. Once you're on your merry way though, I don't think a return ticket is in our interests.

I guess I did. I kind of thought that a Government by definition commands a majority in the Commons. And that the nature of Government is that you lead the country. My mistake. Before the last election did the Government have a majority?

She could be switched off. But that would be easier where she is now.

No way will she get a life sentence, I am not sure, given our justice system, that she will get a custodial sentence “ she was only a child, misguided. She has already been incarcerated so that is enough”. Cue book/film, will make a fortune.

Once you're on your merry way though, I don't think a return ticket is in our interests. I cannot find a single thing to fault in that what so ever but I still believe she should be returned to UK juristriction, all be it intially at a military base. She was under the age of agreed majority in this country. Therefore the state owes her a duty of care, despite every single one of your well reasoned and argued points. My belief that she should be returned is nothing to do with her as an individual. But we either have 18 as the agreed point at which an individual becomes 100% accountable for their actions or we do not. She was under that age when she made the choices she does. The country owes it to itself to offer a second chance, no matter how much that sticks in the craw. And trust me, I write none of this with anything other than a heavy heart. But we have to be better than those IS savages. We cannot sink to their level. We have a rule of law and a common law principle of duty of care. For me that is worth more than just one very very stupid girl.

Just use the Dag Hamerskjold 'plane crash' method. Make sure the rest of the people on board have parachutes.
