Let's look at it another way. We have managed to keep Wilf, a '' star player '' despite the reported interest in him by other clubs. But not without a financial cost, he now earns £120k a week. You mention the constraints we have re an improved stadium and larger capacity - paying him, Benteke and Sakho such wages is only sustainable if you reduce the budget elsewhere. That's another reason why we aren't big spenders. I share your concern regarding whether funds from a player sale will be wisely spent, but it provides an opportunity to bring in players that otherwise would not be there. As with most things in life, there is a risk element in decisions that are made. I think the risk of Palace being relegated due to the sale of AWB is sufficiently low for it to be considered. It isn't just about that though is it.

If he is willing to sell - and indications are that he is at a certain price - it's because he places more importance on being in the Premier League than watching AWB play every week and also believes that the sale would not majorly jeopardise that. If that's the case, I agree with him. And if we don't sell, then great. But I wonder how long it will be before AWB's agent is pushing for Aaron to get pay parity with Zaha and co., - just another thought

Sell quality to buy mediocrity - the philosophy of an ambitious club? Clubs with real ambition see Wilf and Obi Wan as the means to achieve higher goals. All the chatter about these guys possibly leaving along with Townsend is so depressing.

Chelsea have just sold Hazard. Real sold Ronaldo last year and the list goes on and will do as long as football exists. Better players than AWB get sold every year and the teams and their fans just got on with it. The way a lot of you are carrying on, you would think the sky is going to fall down if AWB goes. Edited by EddieMac (18 Jun 2019 6.52pm) It is symbolic of an acceptance that we can't compete at this level. We can now look forward to circling the plug hole until we eventually go down it.

Not if we keep selling our best players. You have noticed that we have been in an almost constant relegation battle since we were promoted?

I don’t ever agree with selling our best players, but if we have to they must be quality replacements in return, and not a scatter gun approach. Liverpool sold Coutinho and brought in Van Dijk and Allison with that money. So in some cases it can work selling your best players as long as you bring in quality in other areas that need strengthening.
