It is wanton criminality and vandalism and has absolutely nothing to do with protesting. If ever there was something that inflames a situation then they may have just found it. There will be very little sympathy from the masses towards this and if there is (evidently in the media perhaps by the lack of coverage by the BBC) then our country is going to shiite. If you want to gain understanding and support from the majority, have a good think about a) what you are trying to achieve and b) how you go about it. Excellent post. You know, and I know that it will never be enough. The only silver lining is that lots of people are now seeing it in front of them. Which is why the leftist media are desperately trying to censor and put the best spin they can on it. But their lying and misdirection has reached almost comic levels.

I can't help but think that social media is a big part of the problem. Anything can be shown selectively, from a certain angle or edited, but many take those images, videos etc as gospel truth and get incredibly agitated. Even on a football forum, the News and Politics section is divided. Times that by a million for the 'real world', outside of our small bubble on the worldwide Web. In terms of extreme violence and murder the negative consequences of people seeing that are obvious It's the same, if to a lesser destructive extent, with p00rn. None of us want young children being exposed to any of it. Ah but when it comes to what to do. Once the technology is there it's there....it's the same issue with nuclear weapons. We know that soon as you give censorship over to an external body, questions can be asked about its political nature...We can point at the social media companies but it's everywhere.....I mean look at what's happened here with advertising standards making intersectional feminism actual industry law. The issue with censorship bodies is that they then become the arbiters of truth and will always look to extend their remit and reach. It's a difficult one that doesn't have an answer yet. No argument from me. There have been some large and peaceful protests held elsewhere in the UK, but that wasn't the case with some elements here. The disruptive and criminal elements of this or any protest should be taken to task. Those spooking horses by hurling bikes at them, resulting in her injury, are especially sacks of sh!t. Thankfully there's pretty clear footage, so I can't imagine them not getting a well deserved knock at the door.

I doubt we're entirely aligned politically, but you're right. Your words aren't a world away from what I was saying the other day - see below. Wanting government to solve it could be a case of "careful what you wish for" because they too have their own biases and are part of the polarisation, not apart from it. But what you highlight is correct. "I honestly believe that the parallel existences that those on both the wayward end of left and right opt into on social media has f***ed a lot of people up mentally. Like a kid in a candy shop, giving people exactly what they want rather than a balanced totality of the good, bad and the ugly realities of what they both believe and don't believe leads to very warped perspectives. Something tells me that those twitter "commentators" knowingly trotting out their intentionally easy to digest, one dimensional takes are doing much better financially from their venture than their adherents are emotionally.
