I would rather him go and win somthing and show the world even more his abilities than stay here for the next 5 years in a relagation battle every season! I mean I'm mentally drained from it all lately! Can't imagine how he feels! You’re a big Palace fan then.

it's been in more than tabloids and if substantial errors of fact were published, he or his agents could have corrected them. they didn't And simmer any possible demand that might get one of the big clubs more interested? It’s not very good business sense, obviously.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle bottom line: I do believe he's rejected a new contract and I do believe he's asked to leave. people want to believe a grand conspiracy that the media wants to make all our top players leave for big clubs, and are prepared to print lies to do that. I don't. It will be easy for a journalist from a vaguely reputable media outlet to get an agent's number and build a rapport with that agent because it's in that agent's interests to occasionally place stories. So I'd be staggered if Zaha's agent didn't have direct relations with 5 or 6 journalists. No doubt they've all been on at him (I assume it's a him) all summer saying will you give me the scoop when it's clear what wilf's doing? Eventually there's clarity/movement and the agent shares it to stoke interest. As soon as that story lands, what do you think the 4 or 5 journalists who didn't get the scoop are going to do? They're going to pick up the phone to match the yarn or, better still, rubbish it. Journalists love to rubbish other journalists' work more than anything in the world. Now the agent can't go around pushing lies, whatever you want to believe. Somebody will have a direct line to SP. And SP can take to Twitter. And for the record, I have seen players or agents clarify a situation, but admit it's rare. I genuinely think if there were errors of fact here, Wilf would have said so. Maybe he will. Maybe SP will. I hope so. [ Edited by Ginger Pubic Wig (25 Jul 2018 6.53am)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle GPW, I’m not sure how Wilf can ask to leave unless there’s a been a firm bid? Has there? I’d discount Everton. Maybe Spurs have but everybody knows the way they do business so it’ll be no surprise to Wilf if Parish declines Spurs and any wish Wilf has to move for the cost of a pre match pie and pint. But if there was a firm bid it’ll also have been all over the press. Maybe he’s inferred he wants to or intends to leave but I struggle with ‘Wilf asking to leave’ with nowhere to leave to.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sell Wilf?' by Penge Eagle Not necessarily my choice but selling Wilf and investing in 3 quality players would seem a fairly logical deal for the long term benefit of the club. We rely on a talisman week in week out to get results, and can barely buy a point without him. It’s such high risk. If we have no money 60-70m may prove the best decision if it allows us to bring in 3 high quality players that add depth and quality across the pitch. Probably not a popular thought but being objective it might fund Max Meyer, Andre Schurrle, and RLC just as an example. Would we be better off?

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle I'm not believing these stories right now. Wilf was given a new 5 year contract last summer which was both deserved & a clever move by the Club - the wages he's on puts him outside the structure of a number of other teams (including Spurs). To sign him means either breaking that structure or upsetting existing players (which is rumored at West Ham already). Offering improved terms would achieve nothing more other than impacting on our already inflated wage bill. As Rudi says, I can't imagine he'd ask to leave unless an offer was made in which case, these days, the world would know about it as he's pretty high profile. Both these stories have emanated from two journos, neither of whom have a connection with the Club nor a history of being ITK. Lazy media types have simply regurgitated the original stories & nobody has seemingly either investigated their validity nor come up with any evidence for either.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sell Wilf?' by Penge Eagle I think swaps are more valuable than money and that's where the issue will lie. If it was Fifa and players were robots with no say or feelings we're in a fairly strong position. I'd say Wilf is worth 70m, Loftus Cheek 30m. I'd ask for Loftus Cheek on a perm deal, plus one of Chelsea's many exciting wingers (say around 5m worth), then ask for Danny Drinkwater on a perm deal (aroud 15m worth). That way we've got a young prospect, our midfield completely sorted for the next few years and an additional 20 million for a backup striker. Of course going back to my first point, players aren't products that can be moved and sold by their Owners. Danny Drinkwater and Loftus-Cheek would probably have something to say about being forced to sign a 3 year contract with Palace. I don't think either of them would be up for more than a year here. RLC might come back on loan but I think he's got his sights set on a Liverpool or United if Chelsea deem him surplus and I know if I was him, I'd go to Palace for one more year of first-team football but never commit to anything more with us in our current state. Otherwise next year, RLC will just be Wilf in the situation. "I can't stay here because the Board aren't backing the team and I don't want to the sole reason we scrape survival every year without any team-mates that are worthwhile".

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sell Wilf?' by Penge Eagle No we wouldn't be better off. It's too close to the season now so losing Wilf would ve awful. What we need to do is target 3/4 players and make sure we do it properly. Sell Wilf at the end of the season as we'll still get a great price. Then buy our targets before pre season starts! This is Palace tho so that will most likely not happen. Maybe he's actually happy being here tho and being the big fish? He's not said he wants to leave. He only chose not to sign a new deal as he doesn't need to. If we actually start showing some ambition he may stay. If it's another relegation fight then I think this is his last season with us. He needs to stay this season tho as he will be our most important player.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sell Wilf?' by Penge Eagle We should try and replace him before he goes. Once clubs know we’re desperate and have £60-70M in our pocket, we’ll have zero chance of using the money well.
