It's a parliament/council problem not a particular party problem. Unfortunately the last 10-15 years have been building up towards this.

Hopefully it becomes a criminal offence and whoever decided to use the cladding which was against regulations will be brought before a court.

Labour voted in favour of fire inspections being done by the council and not the fire service.

Tories cutting the Fire service further.

Use of Cladding was during both parties control of government.

This is why it is a parliament problem.

Worth a read of this thread. If true the government should be ashamed of themselves

So the bloke who helps run the death cladding company is an advisor to the government on building regulations.

Next you'll be asking the press to self regulate...

Not sure if it's been covered, but some of those flats were illegally sublet... no paper trail. My current squeeze is works in housing benefit... illegal sub letting is a massive problem... and often hard to prove... as the people living there are usually illegals.
Some of the cases she tells me about are awful. She told me of one lady who's been caught twice, she has a handicapped son, so each time she gets caught the council would rehouse her... she's under investigation for doing it again... They think she's back in Jamaica but left her handicap son here with her sister... who has also been previously caught for benefit fraud. They think the family all get flats, benefits/disability benefit then all live together... while they sub let... and spend their time between uk and their family home in Jamaica. They think it could be as much as 6 separate cases of benefit fraud currently ongoing.
The victims are the poor desperate souls (and the taxpayer) that these arseholes cram in to their flats. They had 8 people in a 2bed flat in addo... they turned the lounge in to a bedroom. They had a family of 3 in one bedroom, another couple and their elderly mum in one bedroom and a Chinese couple in the living room.

And that's one of the main problmes with knowing how many people died. People cry foul over the lack of clarity but the reality is no one knows.

The government have already said that no one will have their immigration status questioned and that sub letters will not be prosecuted.

They don't even know how many survivors because of the above reasons.

I'd still prosecute the sub letting scum.

The fact the haven't volunteered the information shows me they're only interested in saving their own skin. Can't stand benefit cheats.... I paid over 31k in tax last year... I've got no problem with that... I believe in the welfare state/NHS/schools/etc... but my mums elderly neighbour, never signed on... owned her own house... died after being refused care visits... she spent 3 days on her bathroom floor.

The people that sub-let aren't survivors. They weren't in the tower, and as people rightly question politicians, the thieves that sub-let... have got off... I know some are still refusing to answer questions... they're withholding info that would identify dead people. Even after being offered a amnesty. Some want a agreement that the amnesty goes beyond this one case... they're worried that owning up to this case could lead somewhere else... not covered by the amnesty.

It's sad to think that in part due to subletting, we may never know the identities of some of those who perished.

The terms of the enquiry set up today. Should a Grenfell resident be on the commitee?

Just to keep people up to date, a palace fan's view...

Shouldn't the first evidence be given by the guy with the fridge ?
Is he illegal?
Was he the named tenant ?
If not, who was he letting off ?
Just might bring to light what occurred to initially start the blaze before the blame game gets under way
