Where have you been for the last 45 years? When you were 21 you could look forward to owning your own property on an average wage, rely on the NHS if you were ill, not be ripped off because you had to get a train to work in the morning, see bobbies on the beat, trust banks, know that if you rented you would not be fleeced, not see homeless people in doorways, etc etc etc. The Tories are a cancer on the UK and they have been for decades.

Comparing that to Corbyn's affect on his parliamentary party isn't even on the same planet let alone ballpark. So what...She should have the people around her that want to work for here. Plenty Tories around who will work for her regardless of the Brexit outcome. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Apr 2017 1.02am)

Apart from movement and defence, you sound like you could be a labour voter. The Tories have let you down in many areas and I'm pretty sure they won't be changing their position either, particularly with an authoritarian / autocratic leader. I don't think free movement will disappear regardless of the outcome of the election. To lose trade with one of the biggest global trading blocks that is also nice and local (environmentally better) would be committing hari kari. Also, what are the chances of needing to press the big red button? I also think if push comes to shove, Corbyn would fire in retaliation. Edited by nickgusset (22 Apr 2017 1.40am)

Edited by nickgusset (22 Apr 2017 1.40am) Well, movement, defence, multiculturalism, believing that a little bit of national pride is a good thing and economic reality in terms of how you treat the rich and corporations....So I wouldn't say I see the Labour party as a natural environment. That said, many of Labour's arguments are ethically sound.....someone said that old phrase, 'the politics of envy' a while back on another thread and while I didn't respond to it I found it really annoying. I don't want to stop someone from doing well....In fact I think they should be encouraged. But the state should try to be fair to all, not just give the spoils to the talented and sharp elbowed. No, I don't disagree with a good amount of what Labour sees as wrong with society....but I often differ on the cures....It's like the left in France...All they ended up doing by taxing the rich at eighty percent was make the poor poorer......The rich can bugger off....they can hide their money around the world...The only people who really suffer from socialism are the poor..they can't move, they are slaves to whatever the economic environment is....At least the Tories try to provide the economic environment for job creation...That's the minimal you can ask for....opportunity. No one sensible asks for 'equality of outcome'....But anyone with ethics should expect 'equality of opportunity'.

The Tory dream of us lackeys working ourselves to death is becoming reality. We are not far off living until death with no retirement or pension as the age for retirement increases beyond the level at which we can expect to be dead. However we will be paying more in taxes and insurance to be rewarded with no pension at all. The above may be a general comment but is it not happening?

Last 45 years? 18 of them Labour governments, 22 Tory, 5 Tory/Lib coalition.

Perhaps over-dramatised, but I agree with the gist of it. Work harder for longer, pay more to a pension that gets further and further away every few years.....whilst your masters avoid as much tax as possible and live off the backs of your toil and your rental payments as they own most of the property in the country whilst being blissfully free of the everyday stresses and pressures of the average person's life. If there's one vague compliment you can pay the millionaires masquerading as our government, it's that they really know how to look after their own. Edited by Mr_Gristle (22 Apr 2017 8.36am)
