^^^ A really good post. Professor Chris Whitty has gone silent, Boris is trying to threaten people back to work, and even Keir Starmer has gone AWOL. I think that’s because there is no political capital left in it. It doesn’t matter what advice they give at the moment as it’s easy to be shot down whichever direction you choose. If you go lockdown you could be ruining the economy still further for no reason. If you go back to normal and there is another wave, you get slaughtered. There are no answers, just limited choices, hence the back seat being taken. On the basis you are damned if you do, damned if you don’t, we might as well try and return to normal and get people back out working and kids to school. Better to be prepared and ready to be reactive to a possible second wave than to just sit here and let the economy rot whilst hoping that doing nothing will save us. Well it might from Covid but it won’t from financial ruin. For those out there who think this is no longer a threat to massive numbers of people (I have to admit, I’m one of them), this IMO has to be the way forward. Happy to be shot down, because I certainly don’t know the answers!

Great post. It really is backs to the wall stuff. Makes the reminiscing or comparisons to wartime in April because everyone could stay ‘safe’ at home a bit silly now.

Not well before at all seeing as though the hindsight lefties claim we should’ve locked down a week earlier saving thousands of lives. That’s actually debatable seeing as firstly most of the deaths at that time were in care homes and it now looks as though hard lockdown countries outside of SE Asia are experiencing bigger and more virulent return of Covid. But more to the point, we locked down everyone to protect mainly the very elderly and then a few million more with low immune systems. We knew after the first few weeks who this was killing. Once we knew thousands upon thousands weren’t going to be filling up hospitals and on ventilators we should’ve been honest to the public and told them what the risk really was. The economic suicide and long term damage to health and death from other illnesses takes some believing when you know who is at risk, who isn’t and the percentage risk of all groups we knew early in. All of the ‘we’re learning about the disease and we don’t know enough and didn’t early on’ is a load of pony and excusing our lack of backbone. But they don’t mind saying we should’ve locked down earlier which it’s turning out to be more and more difficult to prove if that would’ve been more beneficial anyway. Just different people would die or possibly more eventually. 'A few million more with a low immune system'

'A few million more with a low immune system' No. They could be supported. There are ways. Or is the care and compassion just putting a flannel on and acting like you’re caring?

So sensibly the Nottingham Hill Carnival has been cancelled this weekend but not to worry BLM will take up the slack. Next week BLM will be protesting the high infection rate amongst its supporters and complaining that the government doesn't care.

Whether its right or wrong, its good to see the German people able to march and protest against the covid restrictions. This is not allowed in the 'land of hope and glory'. Much of the restrictions have been an exercise in population control and completely useless in tackling covid. But as an indication of how subservient the population can be, and how government can use the police as an arm of the state, it is worrying to say the least.

I’ll never stop being shocked at your sense during this nonsense. But today is the day the U.K. protests start gathering momentum. Once a few big blokes start attending it might be labelled right wing. Edited by Rudi Hedman (29 Aug 2020 1.54pm)
