Don't mention it David. Do you have any Black Friday gas appliances for sale?

My life has been turned upside down by the changes, some good, but most bad for me. There is no hope whatever in correcting the situation as it is well entrenched here now. You could maybe slow down the immigrants, but there are enough people like Wisbech and Cameron supporting the flow. They are starting to change their tune a little but not doing anything to stem the massive tsunami tide of people that is sweeping in daily. No, nothing is being done to slow it. On the contrary. People like me creating your nightmare? I am every bit as concerned about the lack of birth control in some places as everyone sensible is and support the efforts being made. There are some detailed forecasts that suggest the world’s population will peak by 2050, stabilise and then begin to decline somewhat. Until then we must deal with what is and not what people wish it is. I don’t “support the flow”. I recognise it as a reality which isn’t going to magically disappear so needs to be managed. Just as change always must be. Cornwall is different to London. It always has been. Some people love countryside, coasts and moorland, quietness and don’t mind the remoteness. Others hate it and prefer cities. Most people don’t like change, whatever it is. People in Cornwall prefer the winter when there are few tourists clogging the lanes, but don’t like the changes in the summer. They don’t though just moan about them. They manage them and try to profit from them. If any change becomes intolerable then you also change. You move. It’s always a choice. A need to balance what’s most important. I left London 60 years ago as a place to live and will never go back or to anywhere close. I didn’t like the environment, costs or lack of community back then. I left.

Our investment in skills training is poor but skills shortages exist across Europe. We aren’t unique. Even after all those European experts went home after Brexit.

When I saw these revised figures earlier I knew there would be this kind of response. So much so that I could have written the replies myself. You need to look behind the raw data to understand what is actually happening. Which is quite a lot more than just the headlines. What’s revealing to me is that the promise of the Brexiteers was to reduce immigration whilst the actual impact has been to increase it. Not only that those arriving are no longer Europeans but from Africa and Asia. Finding ways to reduce our need through increased training for local people, overhauling the benefit system so that our benefit culture can be eradicated, and preparing for the impact of AI are all things I support. They all though take time and money, which we don’t have. We have needs now. There can only be one response. Immigration on this scale is destroying this country. None of the claimed positives are borne out by the facts. I am tired of turning on my TV and seeing immigrants telling us how we should feel about them and how we should behave in our own country. This situation cannot continue. It is totally unacceptable and unsustainable. The British people must stand up and resist this invasion.

Why don’t you stop moaning and do something positive like advocate for more investment in training and apprenticeships. Or stopping the dependency on the benefit culture and getting the feckless back to work. Because until we do those things we have no alternative other than import the skills needed. The NHS, for instance, would collapse without overseas health professionals. If you want lower immigration then you need to first build the environment in which it can survive. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (24 Nov 2023 2.27pm) Another myth. Most of the people who come here are not any more qualified for employment than those we have here already. Some might do jobs that Brits don't want to do, but a large proportion don't work at all or don't pay any tax. Around 3 million migrants have come here in three years. That is 4.5% of the population. Why do we still have unemployment?

No Englishman who lived in Ireland for 20 years would expect to be called Irish and no Irishman who lived in England for years would expect to called English. Yet if a non European moves to either country he acquires the host identity via bureaucratic fiat and law. (Morgoth)
