I've said all along that I question whether Roy wants a full year. I really do hope that he's not coerced against his better judgement to say "yes" as that will not turn out well IMO. If he takes the job on it has to be because he really wants to; otherwise Freedman and Parish must accept Roy's wishes and look elsewhere.

After his recent positive performance, Roy should be allowed to sail off into the sunset and rest on his laurels of a job well done.

Fair point but why is it taking this amount of time to sort out ? I know what the reply from some might be. Nothing proceeds smoothly at Palace. If Parish has offered him another full season which is clearly the minimum length then I cannot see what will change in these coming/previous weeks ? If the reason is he wishes to have a position lower in the coaching roles with somebody else holding the reins I cannot really see another external manager taking the role. If we go internal then it could easily go either way, a great transition or a complete shambles.

Jeez some of you really don't understand at all do you.
We have limited funds, whilst our owners are wealthy they are not writing blank cheques. We have done amazingly well with both the academy and managing to stay afloat in the prem for the longest time in our history.
Most of our transfer activity will ALWAYS come towards the end of the window chive because we are waiting on other clubs, deals and players to make their moves, only then will certain players become available or excess to squad requirements.
Of course we are ambitious but we have to be cautious as well and MUST spend wisely. Newcastle are ambitious too but have outrageous financial clout now with their new owners. Not only can they make irresistible offers for other clubs players but they can afford to make a few mistakes along the way.
Keep the faith ... our squad is improving.

Well said.

I think it’s worth noting that even Simon Jordan, hardly SP’s No.1 Fan, was endorsing the way SP runs the club on TalkSport the other day . He made the further points that staying in the Prem is an achievement in itself and that although the likes of Brighton and Brentford are the ‘ poster boys ‘ for their approach, let’s see if they can manage to stay in the Prem for 11 consecutive seasons

In reality none of us have a clue what's going on.
Training is due to start the week after next, so you would expect an announcement on the manger next week before training starts, but that's just guesswork.
We're rumoured to have spoken to Rodgers and Potter(more speculation) , but Rodgers is now at Celtic.
Potter or Hodgson seem the most likely candidates to me.

Apparently it is likely that it is going to be Hodgson for another year with the possibility of Paddy McCarthy being groomed to take over (2 nice cheap & highly underwhelming appointments).
SP must be overjoyed, not at the end of June yet, Manager sorted tick, unless we need replacements for outgoing players, our transfer business is done tick, (they will be loan players because that's all this squad needs).
Plenty of time left to keep his mates the Holmesdale Fanatics happy, plenty of time for self-publicity over the main stand development and the academy which is currently producing oh so many players for the first team squad (but if it is to be Roy then they have absolutely no chance of featuring !!)
This could leave fans wondering what he actually does for taking money out of the club.
I have been following this club since December 1973 so am not one of the 'Johny come latelies' who thinks Parish is wonderful or that if you have ever criticised Wilf then you deserve to have your head kicked in and I do understand that we have had 11 seasons in the Premiership blah, blah, blah.
It is really irritating that even now with the supposed bigger resources, there is no will to show a proactiveness to move the club along and all you hear is 'it is great being in the Premiership but one day it will be our turn to go down'..
Well that day will come far quicker if you don't show some intent to keep up.

It’s pretty obvious what’s happening unfortunately after this being written last night

My stance from a few weeks ago hasn't changed.

As there has been no whispers or rumours lately I think it just backs up my theory that we have already agreed a deal with a new manager.

He'll hopefully be announced after 30th June when he can contractualy and legally be announced.
I'm not in the know but just a strong theory I have. And I think it'll be Potter!

An interesting theory Erith and, if true, all should be revealed next Saturday.

One thing I will say is that the absence of any attempt to reassure the fans alongside that of speculation in the media might point to a deal already having been agreed in principle with someone who won't be free until next Saturday.

I agree we’ll have to be patient until after the 30th because that’s when Wilf’s contract runs out. If he goes then Potter would want funds to replace him PLUS a forward and that may not be there unless we sell. Roy has proven he will work with the players he is given and do enough to keep us safe BUT don’t hold that against him. I’m sure he would relish the chance to keep the existing squad inc Wilf and trade Mateta for a new striker. But don’t mistake his loyalty to the cause as a negative.

No chance we’re gonna get Potter unfortunately it’s Hodgson and it’s done sadly. Media can’t be wrong when this much about Hodgson staying has been said

Being manager of Palace is not a particularly desirable position. Though we have good players and likely stable ownership, it may be difficult to improve on our 11th place finish. Despite the fans' hopes that we could "easily" rise to the top 8, it seems more likely and logical that we remain perpetually in the 10-15th range.

Given the likelihood of such "failure," the sole attraction is for a non-Prem manager to have a chance to gain some Prem exposure. But if the exposure consists of 2-3 seasons of downward movement, even while the stadium is improved and the Academy grows, why consider the job? Even the short-term salary boost would be offset long-term if it hurts a manager's chance of a career at the top level.
