I agree. If we always let these sort of players walk out the door we'll never be better than we are and, as you say, most likely worse. If we want to grow as a club, one of the surest ways is success on the pitch, and we won't do that if we allow all of the talent to be harvested. Exactly right.

Selling Ian Wright was a clear mistake. I have mixed feelings about this type of situation. If a player doesn't want to play for you anymore then I think that's a disruptive force that affects the playing environment. I'm rather drawn the the conclusion that each situation is its own dynamic which requires cogent and wise oversight.

I disagree that we can't sell our best players and thrive. Watford have proved that it's a workable model if you have the scouting system in place to replace the players that you let go. Unfortunately our scouting system is terrible.

So if we lost every week you'd be happy? Not at all. And I don't know how you arrived at the possibility that I would be. My point being that for every Zaha or Wright, I've seen a hundred of John Laceys and Brian Basons ! You appear to be finding it difficult to acknowledge the financial side of the game. Let alone the personal ambitions of players that like it or not, want to play for bigger clubs. I would love our club to be in a position to build around it's best players rather than have to sell. But until Palace are bankrolled to the extent that it is possible to do that, it remains an ambition

All this talk of money. Don't Palace fans actually want to watch great players in the shirt? yes, I think we All do Quote
Isn't that what fans pay money for? If United paid us a trillion pounds I would still be gutted to lose one of our most talented ever defenders. As would I... Quote
We will never be anything all the time we sell our best talent and history shows that. Wright, Sansom, Armstrong, Taylor, Salako, McGoldrick, Moses, Fonte and more... All sold as we went backward. I agree It's not sustainable, and if we were to keep doing it, then that's a mistake. You take each opportunity on it's own Merit, and have to consider immediate needs as well as long term ones.

Our team needs investment, we need income to do this. We will not get relegated because we sell our right back. That’s not being disrespectful to Aaron. There’s not many clubs that would implode when losing their best full back.

I just know that winning games is the way to progress and having star players is the way to increase the fan base.

We have managed to keep Wilf, a '' star player '' despite the reported interest in him by other clubs. But not without a financial cost, he now earns £120k a week. You mention the constraints we have re an improved stadium and larger capacity - paying him, Benteke and Sakho such wages is only sustainable if you reduce the budget elsewhere. That's another reason why we aren't big spenders. I share your concern regarding whether funds from a player sale will be wisely spent, but it provides an opportunity to bring in players that otherwise would not be there. As with most things in life, there is a risk element in decisions that are made. I think the risk of Palace being relegated due to the sale of AWB is sufficiently low for it to be considered.
