Centre Forwards are there primarily to score goals - sadly for us Nenteke no longer scores goals so even given our current situation with injuries he should be dropped and give this new chap a go - he can't be any worse can he?
Add to that he even had a header on target on Saturday!

Looking at it from Benteke's viewpoint, it must be awful for him as a striker not scoring goals. We can all criticise the fact that he keeps missing chances and has only got 2 all season but he might be going through real mental torment.

At the end of the day a striker wants to hit the back of the net each time he/she plays and when this doesn't happen and strikers go through barren runs perhaps supporters don't appreciate it from the standpoint of the player.

Of course we can criticise the fact that Benteke has only scored twice and sometimes looks disinterested and languid but deep down he is probably as disappointed and frustrated as we are.

,
well said, and the shot that got the penalty was going in so bit unlucky and a great effort!

There are many many people in this world who are going through mental torment and a lot of the time it is to do with financial problems. I don't think his are, do you? Kind of puts it in perspective and he should just pull his finger out of where the sun don't shine and start hitting the back of the net. If it means putting extra practice in, standing out there for hours doing one on ones with keepers, then just do it, it's what he is paid to do.

With the greatest of respect, mental torment, anguish, stress etc etc are not all down to matters of finance.

Benteke might well be putting in extra practice but practice can never totally mirror image match situations.

Willo, oh come on, surely you know what I meant or maybe you didn't like the analogy. His mental torment is nothing like the anguish felt in other situations which was the point I was making. I could have said loss of a family member, loss of a job, anything really, but not scoring goals is hardly a cause for mental anguish. If he has no confidence then go and find some on the training field. After all practice makes perfect!

So because he's rich he's immune from any sort of mental struggle? Do you think he enjoys the fact that he used to be really good, and now he's quite s***e? You don't think that would have any effect on your professional pride?

I'd imagine it's pretty devastating to know you're nowhere near the player you once were, and have to prove it in front of millions of people every week.

Of course, relative to other people's problems in life it's minor, but that doesn't make it not a factor.

I agree with the general thrust of these sentiments in relation to your comments about immunity.

I would add that I don't think that Benteke has become a bad player overnight, it just hasn't happened for him this season, following on from last campaign when he netted 15 PL goals.Perhaps the longer it goes on the worse it gets for him - there is a human element to this.

Maybe he will start scoring goals between now and the end of the season - let's hope so !

im sick and tired of watching and hearing about Benteke missing a load of sitters and not being able to do things a top striker getting paid £120.000 a week should be doing and not being a team player against Everton he was so in a world of his own the only thing he did to even get anywhere near scoring a goal was jump up and put pickford and the ball in the net by fouling him he's not firing on all cylinders he needs to be benched the way forward is for roy to give Sorloft his full debut at least try something different and hopefully wilf will be back and if possible both of them click and get the wins and points towards safety we desperately need and quick.. I might get slaughtered for this post and im sorry for the way i present it like ive said before its the only way i no

Problem is that he may be banging them in for fun all week in training, thus giving Roy false hope and making him pick him for the match, for him then to go completely to pot.

He's low on form and confidence.

We're over-reliant on him.

Vicious cycle, innit.
