Bottom line is, there are 4 maybe 5 clubs interested in Austin. he is just an out and out goalscorer which is what we need. Bamford scores goals but he wont be given the 90mins every week. wickham doesnt score many but puts himself about alot, same as murray. We need Austin not only for the goals but also to make Wickham take the next step up in his career and start to not only score goals but compete for the 9 position.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 If we bid i think he'll come for 2 reasons, Pardew is the big pull, but you dont get supported as a player more by any other fans in the country than you do at Palace. The support and atmosphere is why we are coming out on top now. Austin, you no you want too

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 The sad thing is that I doubt we are after Austin after signing Wickham. Therefore, I guarantee this website will go into meltdown when he signs for someone else, forgetting the fact we've done our business early and actually done pretty well, minus a centre back in this transfer window. I'd like Austin, but the post admin scars mean I'd be seriously concerned as to why we are buying him after also getting wickham. Players would have to move on. I highly doubt Austin wants to come here either. With QPR after Guediora (probably spelt wrong) a potential deal could have been struck all summer but hasn't been. Parish himself alluded to Austin not wanting to go to palace on talksport a few weeks ago. I hope people are sensible about this but I feel a McCormack/Nugent/Jose Baxter type response about s lack of ambition hitting this site as soon as Austin signs elsewhere, when ironically we've already moved on by signing Wickham.

Agreed strongly. If we sign Austin then the Wickham deal is the very definition of frivolous. Only way the Wickham deal seems like value at that point is if we can 100% move on Gayle for basically the same amount. At least then we've basically bought Austin and swapped the other two.

I think we'll definitly bid for Austin if Muzza and gayle leave. We are in the box seat as Austin wants to stay in London and He won't go to West ham arfter what Sullivan said about him This was the signing i wanted most during the summer. Then I'm afraid you'll be very disappointed. Can't seen CPFC2010 even making a bid for him for the following reasons, 1 he's not worth the £15m QPR are demanding. 2 Palace will need to offload Murray, Gayle, Campbell, and either Wickham, Bamford, or Chamakh, to makeway for Austin, and at least 4 of those will still be at Palace come 11pm next Monday.

would make sense to tempt Qpr with a swap and move other players on. the window shuts at 6pm this time around not 11pm.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 Austin scored 17 goals in the Champ the year QPR went up, we've got a player who scored 17 goals in the Champ last year for a much lower scoring team which didn't even get promoted...

This is mental. Charlie Austin is a target man, as is Wickham, Murray and Chamakh (traditionally, although his role with us changed somewhat). He is absolutely nowhere near a similar player to Bamford. That kid is quick, like to get the ball deep and can actually play the number 10 role. If we were to get Austin, which I doubt seeing we got Wickham, then Murray will go.

Unless we move Murray/Gayle/Campbell on I just don't think this deal will happen. The Sunday papers lazily suggested it and now people are longing for it to happen. My gut says it won't. My gut also says he'd do very well at palace. Unfortunately it won't happen and I fear this new found optimism on potentially landing Austin only for him to go elsewhere will see this site explode in negativity, even though we've never been in for him since wickham arrived. I got the feeling after seeing Dwight handing his shirt to someone in the Holmesdale and his demeanour he's definitely on his way out I'd be gutted to see him go. This Metro piece suggests both that Palace are back in for Austin AND that we are prepared to meet the £15m asking price. As many have said, this only makes sense if both Murray and Gayle move elsewhere this week, which other 'rumours' suggest is on the cards. This might leave us on September 2nd with a strike force of Bamford, Wickham, Chamakh and Austin (Campbell is I think still injured)
