I don’t think farm workers have been a problem in the UK. One outbreak in the Press. They almost never leave the farms, most don’t speak English

I agree, they very rarely leave the farms.

I think that is the difference between UK and Spain. travelling farm workers are common there crops of course are seasonal so they will move around depending on which crop is ready to be picked and they don't stay on one farm once that is done they move to the next one. They probably travel a thousand miles doing this.

So what did happen in the UK when it ‘bowed to pressure’. Nada

Doesn’t explain the number of disasters since the current Government. In the end it is the Ministers who have authority. The current crop is ridiculously weak, presumably on purpose.

You said civil servants have got worse since 2019, I was just stating imo that SCS have always been poor and do not believe they have got worse.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion on the present ministers but it is not one that I share with regard to them all

We have bowed to pressure from the airlines, who do not follow social distancing guidelines, spikes all over Europe.
They are not insisting that passengers complete PHE forms prior to arrival, whereas you cannot travel to many countries without having completed one. Certain airlines made it clear they would not comply, so we bowed to pressure from them

Nada, that we know of.
IMO they should still have been tested, it only takes a few to go shopping who are positive for it to spread. Possimore by luck than judgement who knows.

Public Health England a complete disaster but blame Matt Hancock not the people who run it and advise the government.

Exam results a complete disaster but its the Minster's fault not the people who advised we should use an algorithm that doesn't work.

When are Civil Servants going to be accountable? In the real world they would be sacked.

It doesn't mater which party is in power Ministers rely on the Civil Servants and yet they seem immune from criticism.

Of course Ministers have to take political responsibility but does anyone believe that Gavin Williamson came up with the algorithm? Ofqual have a lot to answer for.

I see you were ripe to absorb Mr Cumming’s Trumpesque lines. Where does the buck stop? The Conservative Party has been in power how long?

I have been trying to get the point across that SCS are to blame for a lot that goes on and indeed are, in general, not held accountable. Please note I did say SENIOR Civil Servants. You are correct it does not matter which party are in power, they all rely on SCS

Scientists and Civil Servants are advisors. The political decisions are made by the government, and it is those in power who should be accountable.

Yep the only one I can remember from the HO that was held accountable was Jackie Smith, who fell on her sword, after the Romanian/Bulgarian visa fiasco. Policies written by and implemented by SCS, who she presumably trusted, policies that were ridiculous and unworkable. TBF she took the wrap

In the Civil Service they are covered up for until they can retire with their gold plated pensions, lump sums and a knighthood to say 'thank you'
