They probably travel a thousand miles doing this.

Doesn’t explain the number of disasters since the current Government. In the end it is the Ministers who have authority. The current crop is ridiculously weak, presumably on purpose. You said civil servants have got worse since 2019, I was just stating imo that SCS have always been poor and do not believe they have got worse.

Public Health England a complete disaster but blame Matt Hancock not the people who run it and advise the government. Exam results a complete disaster but its the Minster's fault not the people who advised we should use an algorithm that doesn't work. When are Civil Servants going to be accountable? In the real world they would be sacked. It doesn't mater which party is in power Ministers rely on the Civil Servants and yet they seem immune from criticism. Of course Ministers have to take political responsibility but does anyone believe that Gavin Williamson came up with the algorithm? Ofqual have a lot to answer for.

I see you were ripe to absorb Mr Cumming’s Trumpesque lines. Where does the buck stop? The Conservative Party has been in power how long?

Scientists and Civil Servants are advisors. The political decisions are made by the government, and it is those in power who should be accountable.

Yep the only one I can remember from the HO that was held accountable was Jackie Smith, who fell on her sword, after the Romanian/Bulgarian visa fiasco. Policies written by and implemented by SCS, who she presumably trusted, policies that were ridiculous and unworkable. TBF she took the wrap
