This Government hasn't got anything right at all that I can see, has changed it's mind at very short notice on lots of issues and has also lied to us. I don't remember anything quite as dramatic in the past, where mistake upon mistake is made. Yet still 42% of people would vote for them again. Nowt so queer as folk. Maybe because all governments rely on the ability of Senior Civil Servants. I am very friendly with one such person who advised the Government that only 10000 Poles would come to the U.K. and most would leave within 5 years. Yeh right,

Yeh right, In that case it’s surprising how much worse civil servants became on or around 24 July 2019. Perhaps due to the ‘seismic changes’ Cummings was plotting. Sure, I pretty much agree with all of that. The fact that the Tories are perhaps marginally better at running departments than Labour's idealogs is faint praise from me and I have no issues with the reality that the real source of the incompetence lies within the system......which the Tories have been in charge far more years than Labour. You are kinder concerning the schools than I am. When the average is a whopping 9 percent higher between predicted and last year's reality serious questions need to be asked. Teachers aren't there to be generous to students, they are there to be robust and represent the system...but we know that in truth, the system doesn't reward robust teachers and it incentivizes teachers to look for anyway they can to give good grades rather than pure reality. What this shows is what I was aware of anyway...a cultural generational malaise within the system, which focuses far too much upon empathy and not enough upon meritocracy. It's all smiles until the day the bridge you're crossing falls down....a bit melodramatic perhaps but not unprecedented in reality.
The empathy approach grinds my gears. I want to see action and solutions. Not metaphorically stroking everyone’s crown of the head like you do your son’s.

Just been reading that the 2nd spike in Spain and possibly other countries is due to migrant farm workers. They have to move from farm to farm region to region to earn their living and they are not looked after by the farmers.

Not surprising although I would have thought the influx of tourists didn’t help.

In your first paragraph you should have said Senior Civil Servants. Doesn’t explain the number of disasters since the current Government. In the end it is the Ministers who have authority. The current crop is ridiculously weak, presumably on purpose.

They almost never leave the farms, most don’t speak English They all quarantined for 14 days. Edited by Mapletree (21 Aug 2020 8.27am)
