In 1964 I was distraught when Bill Glazier went to Coventry (for what was a very good fee for a goalkeeper in those days) but that opened the way for John Jackson - and that didn’t turn out too badly. As one door closes another one opens, it is the way it is and the way it has always been. Michael Olise is a great talent, I have enjoyed watching him, but we move on. Steve Kember going to Chelsea was a disappointment but our recruitment is a lot better now than it was then.

But luckily, it hasn't taken us long to get over it. Surely being a football fan means accumulating a lifetime of bitterness and regret!

Good perspective there. Didn't we receive money plus AJ for Clinton Morrison, as part of that deal? Didn't work out too badly and I was gutted when CM left. Yeah, something like £4.25m and the right to buy AJ for £750k. Easily the club's best transfer deal of the 00s. We then bought Clinton back for £2m. In the end, Birmingham gave us net £1.5m and Andy Johnson for a glorified 3 year loan of Clinton Morrison, in which time we got promoted.

Look I’m sorry he has gone but on the upside we signed Olise for £8M from Reading in 2021 - 3 years later we sell him for £50M - not too shoddy business..!! Yes you can argue he’s worth more than that in todays market - but that was clearly the release clause that Parish negotiated with him last season, otherwise we’d have lost him to Chelsea for £35M - so we’re £15M up on the deal..!! I’m just glad he’s signed for someone we won’t be playing against and he won’t be scoring against us. On that point Bundesliga ain’t the Prem in terms of standard - you only need to look at Harry Kane to see that 36 goals in 32 games in the Bundesliga - but way off the pace for England at the Euros - to the point I’d play Toney ahead of him on Wednesday - never thought I’d say that..!! So back to Olise he’s only 22 - so leaving the Prem at that age to go to a sub standard league - huge risk..!! Yes I get he’ll play Champions League - but week in week out football sub standard..!! No doubt a significant increase in salary played a part in his decision - but also leaves me to wonder as I’ve said before if he’s decision is about he’s overall ability to deal with the rigours of the Prem given for one so young he’s not insignificant history of hamstring issues`!!?? On replacements - firstly he is not irreplaceable - we took a chance on him from the Championship and it worked. There are other players out there now just waiting to be afforded that opportunity - Palace’s contribution of most players in the England squad at the Euros must demonstrate we are a good club to join to enhance your talent and progress your career - you only need to look at Wharton to see that..!! For my money Jaden Philogene and Antonio Nusa fit the bill perfectly - we could get both for less than we receive for Olise and arguably be stronger in terms of talent but certainly depth - the latter having been our problem for the last few seasons..!! Meantime COYP and COYE

A shame to see him go, but we did well out of the deal and Olise has gone to one of the top sides in Europe, which shows the talent he was starting to exhibit regularly, bar the injury.

MO is an injury risk over there. The opposition bar about 5 clubs are not the standard of any prem clubs bar probably 5. This means he’s going to get smashed regularly so after 6 months may be on the sidelines. The benefit from bayern will be shirt sales like becks at Madrid. They are a huge club worldwide so there’s the dough for them.

I'm just relieved that I no longer have to worry about him getting injured playing in the Olympics. And so we move on....

Perhaps a disappoinment. Realistically Olise is fragile and injury prone. So an even better sale than Bolasie who at £25m. was

Also looking at the Euros in Germany the standard of some of the pitches have been decidedly iffy in comparison to PL standards, that wont help. Originally posted by cryrst

Meantime COYP and COYE One additional factor to feed into your calculations is the sell-on fee reportedly payable to Reading. According to a BBC South news report yesterday, it's "thought to be 10%of the sale fee". If correct, that's £5m. Edited by YT (09 Jul 2024 9.26am)
