Won’t be able to, Portugal probably have had their 420 applicants already (. 2020 figure as posted by Spicy). Edited by Spiderman (25 Nov 2021 8.33pm)

France sees this as an entirely UK problem, which they have been saddled with on their shores, and they have had all the costs until recently. France already takes 4 times the number of refugees as we do, and the EU many more, but the EU does not take these people anymore due to brexit. It is not illegal as everybody is incorrectly stating, no legal challenge has been successful. The solution is simply to pick them up from France, we need them as we have lost too many valuable workers, and we have a basic human duty in respect of refugees by international convention. But the nub of this tragedy is the basic inhumanity of the UK asylum system.
Correct, ironically, it would be illegal had we stayed in the E.U, with the Dublin deal, but as we are out there is nothing to say they have to claim refugee status in the first country they can.On the plus side, we are OUT, and WE ALONE control our borders! And a great job Priti is doing, has she abandoned her giant wave machine idea I wonder?

Many probably, but they are allowed to under the law, as we are a non E.U country. They are doing nothing wrong in heading to the uk to claim asylum, in the eyes of the law. Had we been in the E.U, they would have to claim at the first safe country, but we are not, so they don"t.We alone control our borders.

They’re no longer asylum seekers once they leave the first country.

They may have broken the law in the E.U, but not by entering the uk, once here, they have not broken any of our laws. And as we are non E.U, it is none of our business, let the E.U countries worry about them passing through. Nearly 85% of those claiming asylum here, are genuine and can stay, and only 6 have been sent back this year.

If you believe those figures represent the reality, you would believe that Norwich are going to win the Premier League.
