Project fear if I ever saw it. Selling Zaha could very well see us go down. Selling a right back causing relegation? Total nonsense. He is a great player but I didnt notice us getting relegated with years of Joel Ward back there. It’s all very similar to teenage hysteria over Brexit.

I think his value will go up and we have him on a long contract. I think United are trying to unsettle him by leaking their interest to the mainstream media every 5 seconds. The message they're trying to send is that "You'll never get another chance to join a big club son. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity". Bollocks. I honestly don't think next season he'll be worth a lot more. Possibly 60m 'if' he has another outstanding season and gets into the England squad (sadly I don't think he'll ever start much at RB failing an injury to TAA)...but again that's another big 'if' considering the number of variables in football i.e player performance, player desires, team performance, league status, injury, suspension, availability of new transfer alternative etc. So with all of these plus one year less on his contract I don't think his value will go up as much as it has already. I think this risk/reward analysis is what we will see 'if' we are offered 50m. It'll be a sad day for sure but could also lead to stronger youth recruitment where players see the potential of joining Crystal Palace. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Haha, the ironic thing is, if he moves to Man Utd then automagically he will become the England first choice because he would of course instantly be a better player! Same thing with value. Apparently he is worth £50m playing for Palace however a year at Utd and he’ll be worth £100m.

All this talk of money. Don't Palace fans actually want to watch great players in the shirt? Isn't that what fans pay money for? If United paid us a trillion pounds I would still be gutted to lose one of our most talented ever defenders. We will never be anything all the time we sell our best talent and history shows that. Wright, Sansom, Armstrong, Taylor, Salako, McGoldrick, Moses, Fonte and more... All sold as we went backward.

If we always let these sort of players walk out the door we'll never be better than we are and, as you say, most likely worse. If we want to grow as a club, one of the surest ways is success on the pitch, and we won't do that if we allow all of the talent to be harvested.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

As much as I would love us to keep all of our best players we need to be able to replace those ageing players who have no value and unless we have generous benefactors (which it appears we do not), then the money has to come from somewhere.

The economics don't need revisiting yet again, but given where the club is at the moment it's likely that we need to sell before we can buy. And in doing so strengthen the overall squad. Of the players you mention, most wanted to leave and some - Moses and Fonte - had to. And actually, no I don't pay money to watch great players in the shirt. I choose to pay to watch whoever is in the shirt.
